Agents keep watch of the dead drop site at Davidson Park.
Hours pass. Morning.
Agents start reporting movement.
Multiple early morning runners pass through.
Children pass through on way to school.
A homeless man exits the park foliage, digs through the trash, recovers a McDonalds bag, leaves eating fries.
No one so much as touches the bench.
Hours pass. Noon.
Agents report a middle-aged man with a briefcase arriving. Sitting in the center of the target bench. He opens the briefcase. Removes packaged food from his briefcase. A salad. He eats the salad. Slowly. No dressing. Upon finishing the salad, he neatly groups the packaging. He spends a further ten minutes sitting. He takes his briefcase in one hand and the packaging in the other and gets up from the bench. No movement towards the drop. He dumps the packaging in the trash as he exits the park.
Hours pass. Afternoon.
Agent teams switch.
Children pass through the park on their way home from school.
Hours pass. Night.
No movement.
Frank:
-something's not right
-who would leave a dead drop out in the open for so long
-one containing blood samples...
-if it rained they could be made unusable
Hours pass. Midnight.
-where's the bum?
The bum, sir?
-the homeless man that was sleeping in the park
-he hasn't returned
Maybe he went to a shelter? Or in another part of the park?
You can't expect a routine from a homeless person.
-no human is random
-check the dead drop
Sir?
-i want the dead dropped paper inspected
The agents left their car. Went to the bench. Pulled the folded page from the slot in the bench. Opened it.
Better luck next time, Frank.
