Athena
“I wanted to talk to you.”
“About?” She crossed her arms and waited to hear what I had to say. I took a breath and just came out with it.
“Do you wanna come over for a slumber party this Friday?”
It was quiet, not even a peep. My eyes were closed shut, and I was too ashamed to open them to look her in the eye.
“Sure.”
My eyes popped open when I heard her response. “Say what?”
“I said, ‘sure’. Meaning I will come over to your house for a slumber party on Friday.”
I couldn’t say anything, it was all so, unbelievable. I was really hoping this wasn’t a dream! I could actually have a chance to make up with Alexa.
“Y-yeah, that’s great!”
“Good, now let’s go.”
“Go? Go where?”
“You missed the bus, genius. How else are you gonna get home? Walk?”
‘You don’t have get sassy about it,’ I thought to myself.
Alexa and her brother drove me home as promised. Before I left, Alexa told me she’d let her parents know about the slumber party. I was both nervous and excited, I was nervously excited. I could only things would go well. I felt bad for pushing her away, even worse for telling her the truth. This was my chance and probably my only chance.
The week flew by so fast that before I knew it Friday had arrived. I checked back with Alexa and she said she would come after she took a shower. The whole bus ride home I was excited! My first high school sleepover! This is gonna be awesome!
As soon as I was dropped off, I ran inside to take a shower and get everything ready. By the time I was done, the doorbell.
“I’ll get it!” I said as I ran to the door.
When I opened it, I saw Alexa in her PJs. I admired her style, she wore green pajama pants with an emoji pajama shirt.
“Yo,” she said holding her bag in her hand.
“Yo,” I replied with a smile, “come on in!”
“Alexa!” my mom said giving her a hug.
“Hello, Mrs. Lucca, it’s been a while,” Alexa said with a smile.
“Oh, yes, it has dear. But you’re here now, and that’s all that matters. So why don’t you two go to Athena’s room and I will bring you up some snacks.”
“Thank you.”
“Right this way,” I said as I guided Alexa to my room.
We didn’t talk to each other the whole way up and it was even more awkward when we sat in my room. I played with my fingers as Alexa watched TV. How was I supposed to tell her? I just need to say, ‘I’m sorry’. It’s not that hard! Just blurt it out!
“Alexa. I’m sorry!”
“For?” she asked eating the potato chips.
I sighed. “For not telling you the truth. You were right, you are my friend and I should be honest with you. This is just my first time dealing with something like this. And I guess I didn’t know how to handle it. I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay, I understand,” she said with a smile.
“You do?”
“Yeah, and the reason why I got mad is because you wouldn’t talk to me about it. I felt like I couldn’t help you and that really hurt.”
“I didn’t know you felt that way.”
“Well, now you do.”
We smiled at each other, then hugged. I’m glad I got Alexa back and from now on I was going to be honest with her.
She broke the hug, then laid on her stomach on the bed. “So tell me what’s up? What’s going on between you, pretty playboy, and the wicked sisters?”
I laughed. “It all started on the first day of school…”
I told her everything. From meeting Courdrory to rejecting him time and time again. Alexa held a straight face. It was like she was waiting for me to come clean, which she was. After I finished my story, Alexa didn’t say anything. We were quiet for a while. I guess she was busy processing everything to speak.
“That everything?” she asked.
I nodded.
“Well, I’m glad you told me,” she smiled.
“So…does that mean we’re friends again?” I asked meekly.
“Of course.”
