“What’s…what’s that music?” I asked, Raven quietly laughed at the music echoing through the halls.
“That would be my parents.” She said, looking over towards me as I shifted uncomfortably on my feet, my hands in the pocket of my jacket as I really was starting to feel like not only did I not belong in the house, but the house was so nice, so warm and so comfortable that it was almost uneasy feeling being somewhere like that.
“Your parents?” I asked
“Raven, darling! Why didn’t you tell us earlier we had a guest!?” someone shouted as she laughed at the sight of someone bounding down the hall, being grandly swept around and around in an elaborate tango.
“And these are my parents” Raven said
“So, Ray, who is this?” someone asked bounding over and grabbing her other hand in both of theirs. The figure was very short, maybe an inch or two shorter than me, extremely thin and wiry, fairly pale, but heavily tattooed in these strange, geometric patterns and symbols from jaw down and in every color under the sun, shoulder length roughly cut and lived in black hair that was just brushed back over a shoulder, a thin goatee and deep set hazel eyes, dressed in a dark blue dress shirt with a wrapped purple/black smoking jacket around him, maroon ascot at his throat, black trousers and black dress shoes and covered in some pieces of massive jewelry. He stood to about her collar or so which was just a little funny because of just…how rare it is to see a woman of her height.
“Dad, this is James, he’s a neighbor.” Raven said, that’s…her father?
“Oh one of our neighbors, lovely!” he said in a very chipper town before shouting something out in what sounded Spanish, but he had an accent that I couldn’t exactly place, it was somewhere Germanic if my guess was correct or something. He just swung Raven’s arm around a little before twirling off towards the woman who had also walked into the foyer. “Minnie, did you hear that…a neighbor came over to see us!” he added
“I heard that, I think your father’s already put the tea on” a very, very tall woman said, there was something…extremely strange about how she looks, almost feline, with the way her cheekbones were, the slight upturn to her nose, a fuller upper lip and the lack of eyebrows, but it made her extremely, extremely beautiful: rich, tanned skin that looked like a mane almost, these rich eyes that almost looked gilded and dressed…extremely nicely for just being at home: she had on these knee high golden gladiator sandals with thin, high spindle like heels with this…gilded fabric robe like gown, the fabric shimmering like oil atop water, a wide neckline showing the tops of her shoulders and long, billowing extremely wide sleeves that fell in a snug fit that fell down her legs and trailed behind her a little, slit twice up the front of the skirt to mid-thigh over each leg so it swished around when she walked, a black sash around her waist and a matching billowing black sheer robe overtop the gown, huge gold pieces of jewelry covering her neck, arms, hands and rings trialed down her fingers to matching golden long, talon like nails, earrings trailed up her ears and her dark brown hair was braided loosely as it fell down her chest with matching gold pieces.
“Oh, I’m sorry…was I interrupting something or plans?” I asked
“Mom dresses like that all the time” Raven whispered back as her father flounced back towards her mother who caught his hands as she twirled and danced him off to the music in the halls, “they’re…always like that.”
“Really?” I asked, she nodded
“The two are always like that, Mom is always dressed extremely nicely, covered in jewelry and things like that, Dad also dresses a little nicer, rubbed off on my siblings and I a little” she said with a shrug, “Hey, Icky, we got a guest.” She said as a guy appeared.
“Oh, sup” he said as he paused at the stairs, just giving me that nod greeting that guys do to each other, he was maybe a few inches taller than me, much tanner than their mother and far tanner than Raven, no freckles or anything, these big hazel eyes and mid-back length hair in a warm brown with honey and mousy brown tones to it in in bouncy waves, a flop of bangs hanging onto his chest. He had features that were a little similar to Raven’s: high, sharp cheekbones, a low widow’s peak, pointy ears and a sharp jaw, but his nose had a sharp hook downwards to it, heavy scruff, heavy brows and generally much stockier, sharper and intense features that made him look…almost feral, broad shouldered, broad chested and broad hipped with masses of muscle, dressed in a black-white striped sweater over a black button-down, black trousers and barefoot with neon green socks.
“Icky?” I asked
“My name is Ichabod, not…Icky” he said with a heavy sigh as he looked towards Raven with a tilted over head making her laugh, “Ain’t that right, Ray-Ray.”
“Just Ray” she said back with the same tone, but the two laughed softly as he went off back upstairs with the box of stuff he was carrying.
“Is it…just the two of you?” I asked
“Oh, no: there’s two more of us: the twins, Barty and Adora, they’re sixteen. Icky is twenty two and I’m twenty four” she said, oh, so…she’s a little older than me, “But Auntie Elvira also lives with us along with Grandpa Hyde…and of course, Sulk.”
“Sulk?”
“Oh, he’s kind of the family’s P.A: he’s our butler, been around sense before I can even remember, he is very sweet, helped my siblings and I with anything we needed help with as kids, just…he’s quite quiet, so he kind of…scares people” she said, maybe a little embarrassed and flustered at his expense.
“Wasn’t your aunt calling you?” I asked
“Must have found what she was looking for?” she said a little confused as she shrugged a little. “Grampa, this is James…a neighbor.” She added.
