I walked alongside Raven as I rested my hand on her arm, just…wanting some kind of support, which she let me do as I held onto the silk of her pajama shirt, it was verging on midnight. Raven just opened the door of the house as she ushered me inside, closing the door behind her as she motioned.
“Come on, are you hungry?” she asked, I shrugged.
“I could eat” I said, having forgotten that the last thing I had eaten was the few cookies when she, Hyde and I were having tea…also knowing what was going to be happening when I returned…I don’t know when the next time I’ll get food is.
“This way” she said leading me down one of the side halls that twisted to the back of the house, over the patio downstairs sunken into the hillside, the room was…huge: a half circle with two rectangular projections to the side of the corners, the entire outer wall was solid glass, smooth stone covered the floor and the entire back wall was adorned in black cabinets, stainless countertops and matching appliances and all sorts of things like that, massive island looped in high backed barstools and all sorts of copper pots and things above the island, various knife-blocks along the back wall under a few cabinets.
“I’m sorry if I woke you up”
“It’s fine, I am still at least two hours from getting to bed.” she said with a shrug, the way she walked even barefoot was similar to how she does in her usual heels, she didn’t walk with her feet up like she was still wearing heels, but the way she walked was like she was still in them with that model way of moving.
“Why do you get to sleep so late?” I asked, she shrugged softly.
“I just function better at night, so I don’t really care for sleeping when the night is young.” She said with a soft laugh, “Plus it is also a little better because of my loathing of sunlight.”
“It’s probably also better for your work too, no? Models are always at parties or something, right?”
“It’s frequent and yes, I do attend a massive amount of parties and functions, so being nocturnal does help with that” she said with a soft laugh as she shrugged. I sat at one of the island stools, mindlessly turning on the revolving stool as she walked about the kitchen. Probably because of the very…very open chest of her wrapped shirt, the sleeves that ended at her elbows and the fairly low, draped back of it showed…a lot of tattoos.
“I…didn’t notice all of your tattoos before” I said, she laughed softly before nodding softly towards the hall as other footsteps entered the room where I saw Sulk lean in. He just brushed his hand in a way telling her to step away from the kitchen and all, she just rose her hands as she walked over as well.
“I have a lot. Sorry, Sulk if I woke you up running down the hall” she said as she moved one of her sleeves up to the shoulder showing her arm covered from shoulder to the cuticle of her middle finger. “My chest is also fairly covered, I’ve got some on my legs too, but my arms are fully covered.” she added as she rested a hand on her exposed collar and sternum as she let the sleeve fall back to her elbow as Sulk milled about the kitchen.
“Isn’t that like…looked down upon in your profession?” I asked
“Not the kind I do, they actually like us having things like this.” She said with a shrug, “I do a lot of like alternative fashion, perfume, makeup and tattoo modeling, lots of shoes too because of how I am so used to wearing heels like that.” She said as she held her arm out towards me so I could look at all of her tattoos, she rose her sleeve again so I could see more: these was a deer skull covering her right upper arm, the antlers coiling past her shoulder cap onto her back and collarbone, the deer skull fell to a ring of black rose vines above her elbow, the outside of her elbow covered by a skeleton key and heart shaped lock, her right forearm adorned with a loosely coiled and twisted two headed cobra that ended at the base of her thumb and at centered on the back of her hand, the moon phases went down her middle finger as her long, icy pale fingers ended in inky black chrome talon like nails. There were from very few and far between spots of color in the tattoos, all a vibrant red, but the majority were entirely black and grays.
“Didn’t all of these hurt?” I asked, her skin still icy cold, I couldn’t see any pores or even hair on her skin as I looked so closely at her arm, I turned her hand a little to see no tattoos on her palm or anything, but all of the tattoos were extremely intricate and very, very well done and obviously…expensive.
“You get used to it, I mean my entire throat is done.” She said as her other hand rose to softly touch her neck showing off how both sides and the center of her neck were also tattooed: spider-webs went across her left collarbone and across the top of her shoulder to frame her shoulder-cap, a fanged skull without the lower jaw adorned the right side of her neck, a red bleeding pentagram on its forehead and blood coating the extended long fangs and glowing looking red eyes, the left side of her neck was adorned with a coffin shaped frame depicting a castle and crescent moon past it in all grays and black, but the center of her throat was adorned with an hourglass: the side bars shaped out of skeletons holding the top and bottom of the hourglass, the sand falling around a half buried figure drowning in the sand, the figure just a black shape of a person, you couldn’t tell if feminine or masculine, she nodded softly towards Sulk as the two shared some kind of silent communication, if Sulk was their butler for as long as I’m guessing, it’s not unusual that the two could talk with just eye contact and facial expression. “Thank you, Sulk.” She said as he slid a plate towards me, like you’d expect: black China edged in gold, gold colored flatware and he also slid a glass of water towards me in a clear crystal glass that faded to black. “Did I wake up?” she asked, he didn’t say anything, just softly shook his head as he motioned to the window before pulling a small pair of hand binoculars from the robe he had on over mint colored pajamas. “Oh, the owls. You were mentioning something about those earlier.” She said as he nodded softly as he walked past, patting Raven’s shoulder in a way that sounded like someone breaking stone, but she was unbothered by the strength that was implied by the sound as he walked out onto the back balcony.
I had already started eating as I realized just how hungry I was, it was like I hadn’t eaten in ages. I can’t tell you when the last time I had a proper home cooked meal was, my family was never the kind where we’d sit around the kitchen table for a good meal of some kind, it was always going to whatever was seen as the most trendy place around us or I would have to make myself something while Father was at work and Mother was passed out drunk in the living room.
“Do you think you’re going to head back tonight?” Raven asked as I looked over towards her, she was just looking forward towards the mirror back-splashed wall, she sighed, “I can…tell that you’ve had a hard time” she said looking over towards me, “I don’t want to subject you to…whatever hell is waiting for you back there” she sighed before looking back towards the back wall of the kitchen, “…at least for tonight. I know we’ve not known each other long, but…I just can’t turn a blind eye to someone who just…needs a break.” She said, her hands knotted together on the counter, making her knuckles white, though with her snow colored skin, there’s not much whiter her knuckles could get. Her features were…almost inhuman without makeup; her cheekbones didn’t look real, her lips were way…way too red to be bare, the thickness of her lashes and the sculpted look of her face and brows…everything was just too pristine, too perfect, too…sculpted. She looked like she still had a face full of makeup despite the fact it was also obvious she had none on…there was almost something unnatural about her features and how pristine her skin is, even her teeth didn’t look real: too white, too perfect, too defined and her canine teeth almost looked fake with how pointed and almost elongated they looked as she talked.
“Are you…offering to let me stay the night?” I asked a touch confused, a touch surprised and kind of…apprehensive as to why.
