James slumped over in her arms as he fell asleep, Raven laughed softly to herself as she looked over to her right, brushing some hair out of her face as her eyes reflected back in the mirror…stark and solid, glowing red, the laugh letting the glint of her razor sharp and extremely long, thin fangs show themselves as she shifted and picked James up in a princess carry.
“So glad that works on humans.” She whispered to herself as James shifted in her arms, nestling his face against her upper arm and elbow as one of his hands was holding tightly onto part of her pajama shirt. That thunderous wolf howl echoed again, she sighed, “Fucking Icky, but…we also had to move so soon to a full moon too.” She added as she walked off. Her bare feet were quiet on the carpet lined stairs as she rushed up the stairs before walking down to where one of the guest rooms were, she just flicked her head with a short phrase of the arcane tongue as glowing blood red papers peeled away from her hands and shifted into a hand shape as it grabbed the handle of the door and opened it as she walked in. the room was the normal guest room for the house: thick white carpet lined the carpet, an attached bathroom, the double door leading into a small hallway, a doorway to the left leading to said bathroom and a slotted door to the right leading to the closet, just past that lead into a good sized room, Victorian/gothic styled furniture in all white, cream, black and gold filling the room as she rested him on the large bed. Walls matching the white fabric, though the walls were patterned with black demask, gold molding along the bottom and top, ceiling painted a dark burnished gold matching the small chandelier hanging from the center of the four faceted ceiling, all the furniture had curved, scalloped legs and gilded feet, black wood with gold detailing, a large mirror above the dresser did show Raven’s reflection as her eyes still glowed. She sighed softly as she walked over to the dresser, brushing a few hairs out of her face as she used the mirror to look over her shoulder towards the asleep James. She nodded softly as she looked towards him and flicked her hand, pages scattering off her hand as they swirled and wrapped around James’ body almost like a cocoon before it fell away, his body freshly cleaned and clothing replaced with a set of black pajamas as she walked over and tucked him into the bed. The large window on the wall ahead of her flanked by opened white, thick velvet curtains adorned with black lace and spots of gold. She closed them as she brushed a little of James’ hair off of his face before walking out of the room.
As the door closed behind her, her entire body seemed to shatter into a huge swirling mass of bats that flew down the hall and through the stairwells before recollecting in front of a large pair of doors adorned with gold and purple. She knocked shortly as she waited just a few seconds before the door opened and the familiar face of her mother stood there.
“Ray, is something wrong?” she asked stepping out, “Dad’s already asleep, is it something I can help with?” she added as she closed the door, dressed in a floor touching billowing black robe over a gorgeous, wrapped and draped gold lame nightgown.
“It’s…James” Raven said
“The human boy that was here earlier?” She asked before looking off a little as she smelt the air, “He’s…here?” she said
“His parents were about to like…beat the shit out of him, he ran and…just ended up here. He was having a panic attack, so I hypnotized him out of it, but…I’m afraid that his parents won’t let him being gone for the night let themselves calm down.” Raven said as she folded her arms. Her mother, Minerva, rested her hands, large gold nails clashing against Raven’s deathly pallor, her mother’s dark hair fell down her shoulder like a waterfall of dark chocolate as her eyes shifted to entirely glowing golden.
“You think they’ll kill him?” she asked
“From what I can glean from his blood and all…they’ve gotten close already” Raven said, Minerva nodded softly.
“And you want to help him?” she asked, Raven nodded, “You have always been such a kind, good, soul, deary.” She said softly resting a hand on Raven’s cheek, thumb softly smoothing across the vampire’s cheek. “You were always wanting to help any of your friends in any way possible, but…you’ve only known this boy for a few hours, why are you going so…far? Even this is a bit of an overstepping for you.”
“I know, I know…” Raven said as she crossed her arms tightly, muscles softly flexing against the silk. “He’s human, so it’s not like there’s something magically drawing me to him, his blood…his blood does smell absolutely delicious to me though.”
“Lifeblood” Minerva whispered, Raven’s expression turned to surprise and confusion.
“What?” Raven asked maybe trying to convince herself her mother hadn’t said that, “I’m too young to have a Lifeblood though, all the other vampires I know didn’t get theirs till they were…far, far older than me.”
“But you know that Lifeblood is a condition you have.” Minerva added, Raven sighed as she nodded softly.
“I know, the school explained to it as best as they could, vampires experience the magic in people’s blood akin to how more mortal races experience illicit drugs, but there is one person out there…for ever vampire that their magic meshed with their blood makes their blood the absolute best for said vampire. Said to drive the vampire mad if they never get a taste of that blood and that once a vampire finds their Lifeblood…their magic will become far…far more powerful.” She explained, “Mom…you really don’t think James is mine, do you?”
“I’m just a sphinx, I’m not an oracle or anything, so I don’t know for sure.” Minerva said as she softly drew Raven into a hug, “But even if he wasn’t, why do you think you’re acting like this?”
“I don’t know” Raven said quietly, resting her head into her mother’s shoulder, the scent of her mother’s magic calming and relaxing her, the sweet sickly scent of dates, warm cinnamon and slightly acidic sea salt.
“Do you think he is?” she asked
“I don’t know” Raven whispered
“Do you want to go over to him…and sink those gorgeous fangs of yours into him?” she asked, Raven sighed as she looked towards the floor.
“I know I shouldn’t, I know all of the laws and rules with vampires feeding on mortals just as well as any other one like me, but…there is just this itching feeling at the back of my head, like…I can make him stop looking so…sad and sweet if I…showed him all of our world and all, that there is something about him that would…fit in the magical world and that he’s meant for our world.”
“He’s has magic on his blood?” Minerva asked
“Not like he’s already learned magic or something, but…the smell of his blood has a distinct tang of magic to it, like he’s never touched the magic in his body, but it’s stronger than a human’s should be.”
“Interesting” Minerva said, “Well, in the morning, I’ll have my limit of magic back and I’ll be able to do some more intense and powerful spells to get to the bottom of this.” She added, her lion tail swishing out behind him as her lion paws padded at the carpet underfoot. “Your brother is having some trouble right now, I’ve not heard him howl like this in a while.”
“I could tell, I think wolf’s bane may grow naturally in the area.” Raven said, her mother laughed softly.
“Get to bed, we know he’ll be okay in the morning.”
“Okay” Raven said quietly as she walked off down the hall as she stretched her arms out before taking her hair down fully, throwing it behind her as she ran her hands back through it, the action stressing her widow’s peak’s sharpness, the sharpness of her features and the way her cheekbones swept up to her temples…anyone who knows anything about magic would instantly know that Raven’s features were without a doubt…vampiric.
