I yawned as I woke up, stretching my arms out, but…something was weird: my bed isn’t this comfy, my bedding wasn’t this soft and my house definitely does not use this scent of laundry products. I stretched my body out as I rubbed my eyes, I sat up as my vision cleared and I grabbed my glasses from the nightstand to my side as I looked around. I was in an…unfamiliar room, but the room’s styling and the way the room looked was extremely familiar: the Seltsam’s. I slid out of bed as I looked down at myself, finding myself in these really nice black silk pajamas. The room was larger than the one at home, everything was far nicer and far more…luxurious than anything I’ve ever had in my room, the thick white carpet was pillowy underfoot, the sunlight washing into the room and reflected off everything white in the room and anything metallic making it seem as if the room was metallic, though the ceiling was metallic and pained a deep, burnished gold color.
I brushed my fingers through my hair as I walked over to the dresser, a note in an unfamiliar handwriting was on it telling me that there were extra toiletries and things in the bathroom and that breakfast was ready whenever I got out of bed, just ask for Sulk. I slipped past the heavy doors of the room as I walked through the hall a little as I walked through the wall, my bare feet quiet on the floor, the thick carpets covering the floor doing more to keep me quiet than I was. As I got to the stairwell, I could start smelling something: coffee, warm spices like cinnamon and clove and the distinct scent and sound of bacon. I looked at a clock on the wall to see it was a little bit later in the morning than I was expecting it to be, but I cautiously started moving down the stairwell. There was not a spot of dust anywhere in this house and despite the fact they had only moved in properly yesterday, the house looked like they’ve always been here, something about the way the house melded with their stuff, it was like puzzle pieces, a perfect fit. It’s the closest I could guess that the house looked at before it had been abandoned, nobody knows why or how it was abandoned, just as long as Boughburg has been a town, that mansion has been abandoned.
A low, growling sound filled the air as I stepped into the corridor and it wasn’t the growling of my stomach either, I looked over as I saw something moving to see…
“T-t-t-t-tiger” I stuttered as I took a few steps back on the steps, a full grown tiger walked out of one of the side-halls, hulking and massive; huge paws padding at the carpet, fur icy stark white with inky stripes, these piercing neon yellow-green eyes and…gold painted claws, a large black rhinestone collar around its neck with a gold skull shaped tag, whiskers that looked as if it had slept with them in curlers and it…looked over at me, pupils going huge that meant that like any cat “dumb-ass mode” had just been activated as it pranced over towards me as I was stunned frozen, it didn’t purr, but did that chuffing moo like sound tiger’s to as it smooshed its head against my stomach as I collapsed on the stairs before proceeding to push its nose against my neck making me look up a little.
“Spot, what are you doing?” A laughing voice asked, the tiger rose its head as it looked over, “Breakfast is ready, go on.” The voice added before a figure, I hadn’t seen before walking into view, the tiger bounded over towards him, standing as its large front paws landed on their shoulder, slowly trailing its tongue over the person’s cheek before walking off down the hall in that bouncy step that house-cats do with its huge tail flicking behind it. “Oh, you…Raven’s friend, she mentioned something about someone had crashed here.”
The figure was taller than me, heavily tanned and freckled with waist length black hair with blunt, brow length bangs, the similar, very well done style and cut that Raven has, though Raven has long curtain bangs. This girl had these intense green eyes, long lashes and no brows, pointed ears, lithe and long limbed, like she’s a runner, a beauty mark above the left side of her upper lip, nails painted vibrantly and covered in golden jewelry: a wrapped white linen blouse with long sleeves and dip-dyed vibrant blue bloused into dark purple linen wide legged trousers and barefoot with bangles covering her wrists and ankles, tons of gold necklaces up her neck and down her collar, gold along her ears and thickly smoked black liner and lots of gold makeup on her face, all of the jewelry did have those elements of gothic elements like skulls, bones and other elements, but I could see hanging from the hoops in her ears were these charms on them of greens, blues and purple tones that as she stood there…I noticed that those charms were moving.
“…Adora?” I asked
“Yeah” she said, “You’re…James, right.”
“Yeah and why the fuck is there a tiger?” I asked, she laughed
“Oh, Spot? He’s Dad’s, total pushover sweetheart, the worst he’s ever done is being too aggressive with licking.” She said, “Come on, you’re going to miss breakfast.”
As I walked alongside Adora, there was a distinct slightly skipping sway to how she walked, her hands folded behind her as she pranced down the hall, taking full gate strides as she landed on the balls of her feet as she was almost perpetually dancing, black hair swishing around her shoulders and back as the linen clothing she had on swished and flicked around her as she softly laughed as she jumped from spot of sun to spot of sun.
“Are you looking forward to going to school here?” I asked, she laughed softly as she paused her skipping to face me.
“Not particularly, luckily Mom and Dad said that before the school year starts, they have some connections and we’ll probably be going to a nicer school, Ichabod is going to be starting his last year at Paradise this school year two, Barny and I still have two years of regular school left before we start attending. I don’t want to be a Cobalt Dragon like Ray or a Violet Hawk like Ick…there are so much cooler houses: Scarlet Bear, Golden Elk or Emerald Wolf are better than those two nerd houses, White Rabbit is even more fun and don’t even get me started on Silver Serpent or Magenta Spider: those two are the weirdest houses without a doubt, one of Raven’s friends is in Silver Serpent and they are one of the most nerdy people ever, always looking at books of some kind or something.” She said with a shrug as she went back to that cantering way of walking. “James is up!” she called out as we walked into the kitchen.
