I didn’t necessarily mind the music, even though it was obnoxiously loud, especially for such sensitive ears as us wolves had. I looked around, assessing the room that was filled to the brim with different people, of all kinds, grinding and caressing one another as their booze was being downed by the minute. I didn’t get that drunk too easily, the disadvantage of being an alpha, especially a pureblooded one at that. Alcohol was like poison, and we purebloods had a higher tolerance for poisonous substances as it would try to penetrate through our system. It would take me at least three times the normal serving to even get me warm, so easy to say I had been warming myself up with a few extra cups before the party started and was finally starting to sense a slight buzz. I liked getting tipsy but it was usually not worth all the effort, as I had a hard time getting really shitfaced.
- You seem quite alert today? Looking for someone?
- Mm, well I hope the others will get here soon.
- All of them, or just Eli?
I glared down at Simon, who was dressed as a pixie. He was wearing practically nothing, his shimmery tight bodysuit left nothing to the imagination. His suit was also adorned with some thin silks that flowed as he pranced around the house and his skin was glowing from having rubbed it in with some sort of body mist with glitter or golden sparkles in it. He had a small pouch of sorts filled with golden glitter that he sprinkled on people from time to time, which made him everyone’s favorite at the party.
Caspar was drooling, at least mentally, I spared the guy a chaste glance but seeing him entranced by Simon’s antics; I didn’t bother trying to have a normal conversation with him. Caspar had opted to just go as himself, but a little more dressed up, the only sign he hadn’t planned on going to a nice dinner somewhere were the amount of rips in his jeans, and the golden glitter Simon had sprinkled in his hair the moment he saw him and his lack of effort in his choice of “costume”.
- Everyone. It’s not like that Simon.
- You know I can smell it on you, I’m not stupid.
- Wha-
- Pheromones. You give off so many pheromones whenever you’re thinking of him lately, it’s like you’re trying to lube him up mentally.
- I. I do not-
- Simon’s right. Even if it’s unintentional, your alpha is reacting to Eli, whether you like to admit it or not. If that poor guy was an omega he’d be in a frenzy right about now.
I instinctively took a whiff of my wrist, where I could smell myself, which sure enough, I stunk.
I closed my eyes, willing myself to close it off, mentally making myself aware and cranking that tap until not even a single pheromone could escape again, not on my watch.
I felt like a complete idiot, not being aware and smelling myself, but on the other hand, my senses had been dulled and my mind was getting a bit foggy from the alcohol, so I blamed my lack of self-control on that. I opened my eyes again, only for them to be greeted by none other than Eli. He was standing right in front of me, a few feet away, in all black with a red hood tied around his slim neck, which he was sporting a thin black choker on as well.
Was he seriously the red riding hood right now?
- Wow you look great!
Simon took a hold of Aria, who was dressed as a cheetah, in a slim full-bodysuit, with ears and tail. They hugged momentarily before Simon let go, to greet Evelynn who’d decided to go as a pastel deer with cute antlers, as well as giving Eli a small hug too. I couldn’t bother trying to join the conversation as I still hadn’t managed to take my eyes off of Eli’s fucking red hood.
The alpha in me was howling at the sight, more or less sensing approval from a possibly interested mate. I quickly shoved that urge down as far as possible, the suddenness of it frightening me and shaking me awake from my own thoughts. I gave Eli a small smirk and nod in approval as his eyes finally met mine after having greeted everyone else. His pupils dilated momentarily, before waving me off with a huff before following the others towards the kitchen, probably to get their drinks sorted. I tucked away my alpha, growling at myself to calm down, since I didn’t want to come off as a dick towards someone I was actually trying to get to know better. My alpha could wait for one night. I soon joined the rest of them, they were all now holding their own cups with liquor in it and quickly decided to head towards the main area of the party.
Later into the night I found myself leaning up against the wall, catching my breath as I tried to calm myself, having kept a nice buzz going throughout the party so far. I felt his presence approaching sooner than I could smell him, just another sign that I was definitely not sober. He was slowly coming closer to me on my right side, when he was within reasonable earshot I decided to just speak up and let him know I knew he was lurking around me.
- So. Little red riding hood huh, a bit cliché don’t you think?
I felt his presence tense up, he might have not realized I knew he was close, a few seconds passed before he decided to move towards me, finally letting his arm brush up against my own, he was warm enough that I could feel it through his shirt.
- Well, it wasn’t my idea nor choice.
- Oh?
- Yeah. Aria thought it’d be hilarious since we started to hang out with all of you and you’re all wolves, you know.
- Sure. I like it though.
- Of course you do, you’re a fucking alpha wolf, I’m practically your walking-talking wet dream right now.
I couldn’t help but laugh out loud at that, his tone was one of disinterest, yet his cheeks were heating up from the words coming out of his own mouth. I looked down at him, his eyes were fixed on my hands that were casually bracing themselves against the wall, keeping me steady.
- I find it kind of hot. Not gonna lie, but then again, you’d probably look good in anything.
This time Eli’s eyes momentarily met mine, his eyes looked surprised, a bit nervous and then he was looking down towards the floor. I simply let my hand pat the top of his head and before he had the chance to rip my hand off and throw it back in my face, I gave him a wink before heading out towards the bathrooms. I looked over towards another hall as I was passing by, seeing Simon leaning against a wall, talking with someone in front of him, that was blocked from my view. I didn’t bother looking as I was on a mission to find the nearest bathroom, but it’d be nice if Simon got to hook up with someone, he deserved to have some fun now and again.
