E14: Grocery Shopping Anxiety

Grocery shopping is something that many of us do weekly. We need to eat, so unless you grow and produce all of your own food, you'll have to visit a grocery store to stay alive. Unfortunately, my anxiety makes this weekly task way more stressful than it needs to be.
There are certain products in the grocery store that are particularly stressful for me to purchase. One of those things is eggs. If your grocery stores are set up like the ones around me, there are way more decisions around which eggs you end up purchasing than there should be. Should I buy brown eggs or white eggs, free range or cage free? Should I buy organic eggs, omega-3 eggs, or vegetarian eggs? What's the difference between this brand and that brand?
This stress often leaves me as the strange girl, staring at the egg section in stores, trying to make the right decision. While I'm staring at the eggs I envy the people who walk in, grab what they want without much thought and move on. I wish I could be that decisive.
The worst part, is that at times I get so stressed by a decision with too much choice, that I make the wrong decision. I find myself having trouble deciding if I should buy a $2 apple, but I'll buy a $4 pint of ice cream. I find myself getting so stressed about whether or not the produce contains chemicals, but I'll chow down a candy bar containing ingredients I can't pronounce, without thought. It's really silly, and I know it.
That silly habit was the inspiration for today's episode of Anxiety and Me. Hope you enjoy it!
