Athena
I woke up to the sound of my alarm clock. I realized that today was my second day of school. I quickly got up and decided to take a shower first. After I took my shower I changed into my school uniform and when I looked at the time I saw it was 6:10 am. I still had 30 minutes before I had to leave for my bus.
I ran downstairs where my mom was waiting for me. She was surprised to see me in my uniform. "Athena, did you take a shower already?"
"Yeah, I did. Why? Is it on wrong?"
"No, that's not it. It's just.."
"'Just' what?" "My little girl's growing up." Mom said as she started to cry.
"No, mom. Mom, don't. Please, please don't cry." Mom ran to me and held me close. She was hugging me so tight I couldn't breathe.
"Uh, mom. I can't-can't breathe." She quickly released me, and began to apologize.
"I'm so sorry, sweetie."
"It's okay, mom. Really." Just then I heard the phone ring, my mom went over and answered it.
"Hello? Yes, she's here, and may I ask whom I am speaking to? Oh, so you're famous Alexis! It's such an honor to finally talk to you." I heard mom say 'Alexis' so I knew who she was talking to.
"The front door?" Mom said looking over at me.
"Okay, I'll tell her. Athena, Alexis wants you to open the front door."
"Huh? The front door?" She nodded her head in agreement. I walked over to the front door, only to open the main door, not the screen door. To my surprise Alexis was there.
"Alexis!?" "That's my name don't wear it out." I didn't know what to say. From what she told me she would rather be sent to prison than wake up this early.
"Well, don't just there, let me in."
"Oh, right sorry, come in." She took off her shoes, leaving them at the entrance. My mom came to greet her shortly after.
"You must be Alexis, it's a pleasure to meet you."
"Please, the pleasure is mine. Miss?"
"Doris. Doris Lucca."
"It's a pleasure."
"What brings you here?"
"I am here to take Athena to school." My eyes widened at her response.
"Pardon?"
"You see my brother works at the school, so he gives me rides to and from school. And when Athena told me that she takes the bus to school, I thought it would be a good idea for us to carpool."
Alexis left me speechless, but she made my mom smile. "Oh, what a wonderful idea!"
"What mom!"
"Oh, come now, sweetie. It'll be fun!"
"Yeah, well---"
"It's decided!" Alexis interrupted.
"But, wait, I never agreed to---"
Before I knew it Alexis and mom were talking about slumber parties and girl nights. I asked myself, "What just happened?"
Before I knew it, the time was 6:40 am, and bus had pulled up to my house. My mom quickly ran outside and told the bus driver I won't be riding the bus in the mornings anymore. She nodded her head and waved 'goodbye' to my mom before driving away.
I ran outside to my mom, "Mom! What did you do?"
"What's wrong? Alexis is going to take you to school now. This'll be good you can get more sleep, and you can have fun with your new friend."
As soon as I heard the part about getting more sleep I knew my mom was worried about me. I guess any parent would be considering that their child has to wake up so early just to catch a school bus, when classes don't really start til later in the morning. I decided to put on a smile and agree with my mom, because I knew she was right. Alexis was a good friend to offer to ride me to school every morning, and I already knew her brother didn't mind. Plus, I had a feeling that these next 4 years are going to be the best!
St. Oak High School Parking lot, 7:30 am....
"Thanks, bro!"
"No, problem. See ya later!"
"Bye!" Alexis and I walked inside the building, through the side entrance by the science classrooms.
"Alexis, where are we going? I thought we were supposed to go the gym."
"We are I just need to talk to Mr. Storm."
"Why? Everything okay?"
"He told me to come see him before school today. He said he had something to give me."
"Any idea what it is?"
"Nope, but we're about to find out." We walked over to his classroom, and peeked in the room to see if he was there. He wasn't there, we assumed he was running late.
"Maybe he's running late, students aren't the only ones late."
"Haha! True."
"Girls!" Alexis and I jumped at the voice.
"Oh, sorry. Did I scare you?"
"Yeah, you kinda did. I think my heart stopped." I laughed a bit at Alexis' remark. Mr. Storm chuckled a bit, then directed us into his classroom. He sat at his desk, while Alexis sat on one of the tables in front of his desk. I sat in one of the chairs by the table, but I could tell Alexis was comfortable sitting on the table.
"So what'd you want to talk to me about?" asked Alexis.
"I want you to take this." Mr. Storm handed Alexis a packet. I leaned over to see what was on it. We saw that it was filled with science questions. Pages and pages of endless formulas, questions, diagrams, and even math problems.
"Um, I don't get it." Alexis said with a confused look.
"This is a science packet, I want you to complete it, and turn it in by next week."
"Okay, why?"
"Can a teacher not assign his students work?"
Alexis and I stared at each other for a moment. "Um, whatever you say, teach." The sound of the morning bell was telling us to go to class.
"See ya tomorrow teach."
"Bye, girls!" We waved goodbye to Mr. Storm, then headed for our lockers.
The day went on like any other would. Of course school was boring, funny, and somewhat entertaining. I was just glad it was over, I was finally gonna go home until.
"Hey, good looking." He showed up. I rolled my eyes and gave a hardy sigh as I turned to look at him. "Why the long face?"
"What do you want Corduroy?"
"You."
"Oh, please. Try something original."
"But it's true."
"Enough games Corduroy, I have a bus to catch."
He quickly walked in front of me. "I could give you a ride."
"Yeah, to hell." He just stood there and laughed. "Oh, come on. I'm not that bad."
"I beg to differ." I managed to get past him, but it was too late the buses had already left.
"Corduroy, you made me miss my bus!"
"Well," he grabbed me by my arm and put his around my waist. "that just leaves more time to spend with me."
"Oh, please. I have better things than be with you." I broke away from him, of course, I kept my distance.
"Come on, Athena. I know you want me. So," He pinned me against the lockers, clearly he wanted my attention. "why don't you stop playing hard to get?"
"Excuse me?" He gave me a smirk, it was if he thought he had caught me red handed.
“Okay, now I know you’ve got some screws loose. Because I’m not playing anything with you, especially ‘hard to get’.”
“Babe, you can stop now. I know this is all just a ploy to get my attention.”
“What ploy? And don’t call me ‘babe’. I am no one’s babe.”
“Ooo, feisty, I like that.”
I got my hands free and pushed him away. “You don’t get it do you? I’m not playing hard to get! I rejected you!”
I couldn’t believe it. She wasn’t playing hard to get, she just flat out rejected me.
The look on his face was that of shock. I could tell that this time, I shattered his ego along with portions of his manhood. I scoffed as I walked away. However, I paused and turned to look at him one last time. The words I spoke were true and none the less a first experience for him. “Looks like bad boy just met rejection.”
