Was it a really good fursuit head? Makeup? A prosthesis of some kind? The strange fox woman's face seemed too convincing to be any of these things. She certainly wasn't eager to shed light on the situation, instead directing any curious eyes down to the table in front of her or back to the clothing rack behind her. Both contained a multitude of cheap-looking Halloween costumes or props. These, she assured each potential buyer, would make this spooky season a far more memorable one than most.
There were few buyers. Some people dismissed the strange woman and her costume stand outright, preferring to look for better wares at a proper store. Others left the stand intending to return later should their search for a good halloween costume be fruitless elsewhere. A few returned the next day, looking to see if she had anything new.
The returning people were usually left disappointed. The stand was always gone, with no evidence that it had ever been there to begin with. The saleswoman was busy, after all. She only had 31 days to distribute the mysterious costumes, and she needed to make the most of it.
