It is the first day back to school after a one-month vacation. Tetsuya Fujiwara, a Mercenary-class student, arrives back to his Japan’s Division academy, School of Mercenaries & Assassins (SOMA). However, his first day of school doesn’t start off so well as he has an unpleasant run in with a female Assassin-class student in the most cliched manner. After the ungrateful confrontation, Tetsuya meets up with the rest of his old squad mates only to find out an Assassin-class student will be transferring into a Mercenary course. And to Tetsuya’s shock, it was the same student he had a misfortunate encounter earlier in the morning, Honoka Miyazaki. Before the two could begin their second round of their confrontation, class starts and Naomi Watanabe Sensei (Tetsuya's homeroom teacher) reads out a list of paired students that shall go together for missions taking place for the rest of the year. Everyone in the class acknowledges their assigned partners, except two students…Tetsuya and Honoka, for which they were assigned together. It has been over 20 years since a Mercenary and Assassin has ever been teamed up. Of course, a huge disagreement breaks out between the two. Before things could calm down, a tragic event occurs right in front of the school’s campus. Tetsuya and his class run towards the windows to see what was going on. Out in front, a car is parked, and a student is thrown out and instantly shot. Instantaneously, Tetsuya and Honoka were called up to the Warden’s office. There, they are assigned with their first mission together. The two preps for their mission and begins to wonder what the administration was planning…

8 years ago, Tetsuya Fujiwara and his family were on a cruise vacation when suddenly the ship was taken over by terrorists. The terrorists, whom called themselves the Guerrilla Operative League (GOL), took the passengers and the ship's crew and put them in a harsh labor camp. Prisoners were put hard to work and if failed to complete their tasks, the GOL would find no further use of them and disposed of immediately. Only the GOL knew the purpose of the slaved labor. 1 year has gone by since the capture and the Fujiwara family has reached their limits. As a result, only 9 years old, Tetsuya witnessed the execution of his parents right in front of his eyes. Before it came his time, a group of very young combatants came to his rescue. They were from an organization called SOMA, School of Mercenaries & Assassins. They rescued him and the rest of the prisoners. Unfortunately, the SOMA combatants failed to retrieve one last survivor…his younger sister. From that day forward, he took the opportunity to join SOMA to find her as she is all the family he has left. Now 17-years-old, Tetsuya is a full-on Mercenary-class student of Japan’s Division SOMA Academy. And with his newly formed squad of both Merceanry- and Assassin-class students, he is determined to do whatever it takes to avenge the death of his parents and find his sister.
