In the very distant future, more than half of the worlds population died out due to an epidemic, where your body would dissolve itself from the inside out.
Almost the entire northern hemisphere was infected, leaving those living more to the south mostly safe. Australia was the only country left completely alone, and actually didn't really notice the lack of news from other countries.
In the time it took for those affected countries to grow again, humans down under had evolved quite drastically.
A lot of them, actually gained what the rest of the world calls Superpowers.
Of course to the Aussies, these abilities were normal. It took hundreds of years for other countries to return to former glory, and all the humans from before the epidemic had died. Australia was overrun by Superheros, some even moving out to other countries, protecting those areas as well.
This, my friends, is where our story begins.
