"Log date, 118. I've been trudging through this jungle for two weeks now, just trying to get my paws on....oh, wait, I forgot! My name is Indiana Whiskers. I'm an explorer on a quest to find the crystal orb. I'm so close I can feel it."
A light, dirt-brown mouse with pink ears, fluff at the end of his tail, and dawning a dark brown leather hat and belt, pushed stop on his recorder and continued thru the jungle, going slower, and slower, and to a stop, as he realized he had no idea where he was going. He had focused so much on keeping record of himself, that he forgot to actually go the right way. He looked around hoping to find his path again, but no. A ladybug appeared from the grasses, Indiana Whiskers walked towards it getting its attention.
"Excuse me little ladybug, but do you know how to get to the edge of the jungle?" Indiana Whiskers asked. The ladybug stared at him silently, then turned and walked away. Indiana sighed. A laugh sounded from nearby, Indiana spun his head to see a dark brown mouse laughing at him amusement in her eyes.
"That ladybug either couldn't understand you or just flat out ignored you." she taunted.
"Marina? Uhg! What are YOU doing here?" Indiana asked an annoyed grumble escaping his mouth.
"I'm here to make sure you didn't kill yourself. Everyone's worried about you ya know." Marina retorted. "Also did you call this place a jungle? You do know this is just some human's backyard right?" she giggled to herself.
Indiana's face burned with anger,
"YOU try walking through this place for two weeks straight! Anyway I'm alive, you did what you came here for now leave!" he pressed pushing her lightly away.
"Now hold on just a dang minute! You think I'm going to miss out on something this entertaining?! I don't care how much the mice back home miss you, I'm not gonna miss this!" she pulled away from him causing him to fall face first into the dirt. "Come on slowpoke!" she laughed as she ran ahead of him, into the grass. Indiana pushed himself up,
"do you even know which way you're going!" he called after her, grumbling and wiping off dirt
"Nope!" she yelled behind her as she bounced away. Indiana followed, mumbling to himself. After asking a grasshopper for directions the two were back on track heading towards the jungles end.
" Log date, 119. I found Marina today, or she found me, anyway, Marina is a girl from my nest. We lived in the wall at the end of this jungle, or 'backyard' as Marina calls it. She was always a mean little brat, who loved to pick on me the most. And now she's been following me around all day, doing nothing but mocking and laughing at me. Ugh! I wish she'd leave! I'll have to sign off for now, bye"
"Hey who are you talking to?" Marina asked turning her head around to look at Indiana but not slowing her pace.
"N-nobody!" Indiana stuttered as he put his recorder in his belt, "Just myself."
Marina turned completely around, walking backwards while staring at Indiana cheekily.
"Oooo! You going crazy being alone all this time?" she asked teasingly. Indiana just ignored her, he was already fed up with her, as well as tired from the day's travel. Marina's cheeky smile vanished when Indiana didn't respond. She looked around deep in thought. the sun was slowly dipping behind the backyard's wall and crickets already started their singing. Marina glanced at Indiana, a thoughtful glaze in her eyes.
"hey I'm tired let's stop for the night!" she announced suddenly, stopping to a halt.
Indiana looked up surprised.
"What? But you were just barely bouncing all over the place." Indiana thought to himself, "ok guess I'll set up camp stay, here while I find some firewood." He said turning to head off.
"No, I'll get it!" Marina blurted.
Indiana stared at her questioningly, "I thought you said you were tired?"
her eyes sparked with worry, she looked as if she had been caught committing a crime. The worried look disappeared as fast as it came, and she looked at him with playful eyes,
"I know, but I have at least enough energy to get wood. Plus I want to get away from your sorry face," she replied.
Indiana thought a second
but if I got the wood wouldn't you be away from me already? he was about to protest but before he could get a word out she bounded out of his sight.
"Be back soon!" she called as she disappeared.
Indiana watched her curiously, "that's weird. Ah, whatever." He sighed feeling fatigue tug at him. He looked around and chose a nice clearing to settle down and rest. The sun was gone and night settled upon the earth before Marina returned. She pushed her way through the grass, several sticks and twigs piled in her jaws. She plopped them down in front of Indiana and attempted to start a fire. Indiana watched, partly annoyed but partly amused as she poorly spun a stick in between her paws.
"That's not how you do it!" he scolded getting up and shooing her out of the way. He searched the pile till he found a wide plank-like piece of bark. He set that aside and built the rest of the pile into a teepee. Then took one stick and wrapped a bow like contraption around it and put the plank at the top of the stick, the bottom of the stick sitting in the teepee. He then furiously spun the stick using the bow. Marina watched wide-eyed as sparks flared and the teepee lit up in flames. Satisfaction grew on Indiana's face. He removed the bow but left the rest to burn. He settled down by the fire, peacefully listening to the fire crackle, the crickets chirp, and the night breeze sway the grass. Marina watched him, then sighed, for some reason sounding relieved. Indiana only just barely noticed, he was so tired he could barely think straight
"Well I'm tired so I'm going to bed. Goodnight." Indiana laid down and curled up to sleep. Marina smiled at Indiana as he fell quickly into sleep. She found a leaf nearby and used it as a blanket to cover him. She found another one for herself and went to sleep.
