It wasn't that she was bored. There was nothing left for her to do. Libraries these days were pretty quiet and today had been silent. With all her regular tasks done for the day she sat in the oval desk in the center of the room and inclined her seat back. With her gaze now altered she could see the rain showering down on the stained window panes on the roof. They were of some biblical story though her mind was too stale to recall the name at this point.
'Ding' came the sound of her peace shattering. Jerking up in her seat she would see Paige, a bright smiling woman with fiery red hair and wicked green eyes, staring at her with her index finger pushing up her nose.
"Well that is such an attractive sight... How the hell did you get in here without the door alarm telling me?" She'd ask as she realised it hadn't gone off. Normally it going off would give her enough time to at least pretend she was busy.
"Oh, the gents bathroom window was open. It helps to be a stick sometimes... You know I'll never pass an opportunity to keep you on your toes... Besides, have you decided if you'll take the job at the university. It'll be funnn and I won't have to trek off campus to come see you." Paige fired off quickly not really giving her a moment to process, a few blinks passed before Paige would just laugh.
"Oh come on Gloria, you're brain is rotting in here. You used to be able to keep up with me. Now you barely realise when people are talking to you."
She was sure she had closed all the windows after the cleaners left...
"Alright, alright... I'll take the damn job. I was just waiting to see if that new apartment on 2nd street would be available before I took it.... I don't want to travel an hour on the train every day." Gloria would smile but a false sigh would leave her lips. Was she really ready to put up with Paige every day again. They had stayed in the same foster home for a time when they were younger, Paige was adopted by another family when they were both 10. Now Paige was completing her doctorate in Modern British history and Gloria who had gained her masters in librarianship. They had been really lucky to have been able to stay so close.
Paige would hop herself onto the desk curling one slender leg under the other as she looked to Gloria, one hand reaching out to press her nose with her finger.
"Boop! I'm glad we're over that now, I'll go get us coffee and you will make that call... Now."
