There I saw her at the edge of the bridge, her legs dangling above the river. My sister.—"Cloe", I breathed out as I set step forward to get closer to her until I reached her back, gazing down at her messy, shoulder length hair, tied back into a ponytail. Which once used to be a beautiful ginger red, now only gives off a hue of a dull brown.
My chest tighten , as I saw strings of her hair shimmering gold in the heat of the rising sun , She was in-front of me yet she looked so distant – like she and I are worlds apart—that's not how I remember us being, we were always together, chasing, running, laughing. She was always there when I needed her.
I step ahead in a shallow attempt to fill the distance that I know full well can never be overcome.
"Sorry Cloe I'm late again – mom's been staying up late recently, probably because your anniversary's coming soon." I said as I made my way to sit across her, still not looking at her.
"–You know," I finally turn to face her, her eyes, dead and hollow, precise image of my soul, as I've left them yesterday. "She really miss you, if only you could come back — if only....". If only it was me. I didn't said it out loud. Not because I didn't had the resolve but because I remembered how much Cloe hated me degrading myself.
I wiped my teary eyes, wonder where these traitors came from, I was the one of survivors I don't deserve to cry.
I cleared my throat and looked at her "Oh look at you! I just called a truce for one day and you managed to make a mess out of yourself" I slide my bag from my back and took a brush and a band out. "Let me fix you're hair—".
I talked about lots of random stuffs while I fixed her hair. I told her that mom made cinnamon buns yesterday, and that neighbor's Pomeranian snuck in our house and scratched my books to pieces.
"It look me whole day Cloe– ONE WHOLE DAY to chase it out"
I rolled my eyes "Sheesh! And i haven't even finished reading Hobbit"
I let go her hair from my hands. "There all done" I looked proudly at what a neat job I've done.
But before I could flatter myself, Cloe stood up as stiffly as she could manage with patella in her knees.
"Cloe?"
She turned and walked towards me, than passed me with her eyes fixed in the distant.
Right! She does that sometimes now, no need to get your hopes up Amber. She will never forgive you.
"W-wait up!" I quickly grabbed my bag as soon as I came back to my senses and went after her.
