Luce and the others had been surprised when they woke up to find Greer was not only already on her date, but there were so many roses in the sink. It had taken them some time to find enough vases, and it was made longer by Dewi insisting on counting them all and then grinning about it. Not that he would tell anyone WHY. None of them were sure how long she’d be gone, but she had gone past lunch and dinner. Dewi had made a comment of maybe they had eloped which Luce ignored.
He was a bit glad when she came home finally, even if she did flop face down onto the couch. “Buuuuuuh….”
Luce looked over and sat next to her. “Bad date?”
Greer sighed. “Good date bad after…”
“You want to talk about it or is this more of a still need to process it situation?”
Greer turned her head to him. “His sister came by the complex and ran into us outside. She decided to say hi and looked at us and used her powers and saw something and made some BIG assumptions apparently?”
“Do I want to know what she assumed?”
Greer sighed. “Well…. I was… prepared just in case,” Greer seemed to avoid looking at Luce at the mention of that idea. “But I wasn’t planning on anything. And he is apparently super into me and their family on their mom’s side has relationship powers? And his sister thought we were like… almost proposal territory or something. She has like a love meter or something and he has a kinda… threads of fate I guess? He can see the types of relationships.” She slowly sat up. “Next thing I know, she is asking me a TON of questions and inviting me to meet his parents. I mean, I was outside the complex like 40 minutes ago. That was not how I expected to see his apartment either. And if THAT wasn’t enough, she said something about the two of us being soulmates?” Greer sounded genuinely confused at the last part.
“Hmm.. like actual, proper soulmates or just as an expression, I wonder… People usually call the person they plan to spend their whole lives with romantically their soulmate, but actual soulmates are rare. And not always romantic. I mean, Dewi and Blake are romantic, but we have an aunt whose soulmate married someone else and they were just really good friends.”
Greer ran her fingers through her hair. “I dunno… she made it sound like the real thing? It sounds like that’s what her family does as a business. Find your soulmate. She was saying that they take it super seriously… and that she knew who I was from her mom’s description. Not only that but apparently Johnson didn’t even date anyone before me because he knew I was coming or something. She even said she found hers, but he was already in love with someone else and… I dunno… she offered to bring me to their folks to talk more about soulmates and made it sound like they practically consider me a in-law already. But Johnson did his thread thing on the date and HE didn’t say anything…” Greer was having some trouble processing all of this. “Then she apologized because she thought he had already told me we were soulmates.”
Luce shrugged. “The kind of soulmate she was talking about could have still been either one. There’s no use stressing over it too much. In fact, I bet that’s why Johnson didn’t bring it up yet. Not really a first date kind of conversation, if you know what I mean…. Any~ways, since you met his sister, that must mean it’s serious….. So when is he coming over for dinner?”
Greer just… stared at him for a moment. “He didn’t take me to meet his sister, she showed up. And interrogated me. Thinking we were already doing all kinds of stuff and had been dating for ages! You, sir, are cheating.”
“It’s not cheating…. Cheating would be going down to his place right now. At least I’m offering food. A good, home cooked meal is always appreciated when meeting the family for the first time…”
She sighed. “I will bring him up when I know all of you won’t drill him for answers to dumb questions. And you can’t tell Ma and Dad!”
“Invite him over for dinner next Saturday, and you have my word I won’t say anything to them.”
Greer eyed him. “....You are going to tell Ma the second I say ‘no’ aren’t you?”
“Nope, but I can’t promise it won’t come up in conversation if you do…. We’re planning on having tea on Wednesday.”
She groaned and sent the message to Johnson. It read, ‘So Luce found out your sister came and is now wanting to meet you. Dinner at 6 on Saturday at our apartment? Be prepared, I have 4 brothers who are convinced I am a delicate little princess that needs protecting.’
