"Reminiscence - To remember the past."
"Song - Killing Me Softly by Fugees"
Dahlia laid on her bed and stared at her ceiling before letting out a soft sigh, with a slow glance at the clock on her nightstand she groaned. 'It's already half 7, I'm late.' she thought to herself before climbing out of bed and rushing to get ready.
A half an hour later she ended her morning routine with a glance in the mirror to ensure she looked presentable. She inspected her gray blouse and skirt which suited her dark complexion and slim figure perfectly before fixing her kinky curls into a low bun. She grabbed her keys and headed out of her apartment and into the city.
Dahlia lived in an apartment in New York City as she worked in the city as an accountant. Her life was as bland as every average working citizen, following a weekly routine of Wake, Work, and Sleep. As uneventful as it is, she's very satisfied and finds it humorous as the teenage version of herself would loathe this path she chose to take in life.
She sighed in relief as she arrived at her office, finally out of the busy morning rush of the city and headed to her work station. She groaned as she spotted a balloon at her desk, boldly displaying the words.' Happy Birthday!' next to the display was her smirking friend.
"So the birthday girl finally decided to arrive!" Mari, her best friend exclaimed with a snicker. Dhalia rolled her eyes and set her bag down before sitting at her desk. She turned to her friend, "Mari, you are being loud." she stated stoically.
Mari grinned, showing off her shining teeth which seemed to have a smudge of red lipstick stuck on them. She brushed back her curls out her face before speaking."Happy Birthday."
Dhalia gave a small smile and waved her off. "Thanks."
Mari pouted and sauntered over to her friend." Later to celebrate we're going to that Karaoke bar next to the pizza place.... and you are not allowed to back out." she added the last part as she saw Dahlia open her mouth to complain.
" Mari you know I hate singing and I am not in the mood to listen to music." Dahlia narrowed her eyes at her short friend. Mari ignored her and winked."I'll come back later to get you." she said as she left the office.
Dahlia closed her eyes and started her work as she sang curses to her friend in her head.

"Oh come on! Can you stop being so gloomy and at least try to enjoy yourself, it's your 25th birthday. Have fun" Mari laughed and gave Dahlia a beer. They were currently sitting at a table in the Karaoke bar listening to the random performances of tipsy patrons. Dahlia took her beer and ignored Mari.
"This is horrible," she commented as she listened to the man swaying on stage singing passionately. Mari rolled her eyes and took a sip of her beer, "You are the first person I have ever met that hated music." she sighed and watched the man nearly fall over the stage.
Dahlia's gaze drifted to the table and she closed her eyes. " I don't hate," she mumbled to herself with a small frown overtaking her face.
The singing suddenly stopped and there were some cheers as the man finally got off stage. Dahlia enjoyed the lack of music for a short while before she heard Mari whistle."Hey Dahlia, the next performer is kinda fine.......", she tuned Mari off before she could finish the sentence. She sighed and kept her eyes closed as she thought of ways to escape the torture she was being put through. She attempted to have a try at persuading her friend to leave again."Mari, how about us....."
"Strumming my pain with his fingers."
She stopped her sentence and her eyes snapped open at the familiar thick voice. Her eyes quickly drifted the stage and widened as she took in the performer.
"Singing my life with his words"
His dark, baritone voice carried the words with immense emotion, an aspect Dahlia would once praise in the past. Her chest tightened as she focused on the man on stage. The way he captured everyone's attention and had everyone in a trance. The way his eyes closed, a habit he always had when it came to singing. Her eyes began to sting as a wave of feelings she thought she had forgotten started to resurface, those feelings brought along all the pain with it....the pain she didn't want to remember.
"Killing me softly with his voice."
Dahlia took a deep breath and tried to hold in her emotions but as she thought she had it all together, the man opened his eyes and scanned the room, his eyes stopping as it met with hers.
"Killing me softly with his song."
