It has been a week since they had arrested Leticia, because of what happened at the Apple Queen’s last activity. She could remember the chilling screams of Kiki, calling her a monster and how she was the mastermind of the recent terrible events before being hoarded away by the police. Leticia could recall her friend, Dakota, demanding them to free her. However, those pleas were all in vain as she was still being escorted out of the building. Leticia was the monster, a monster who needed locked up and away from society.
Looking up at the hard, dark ceiling, Leticia laid on the stiff bed in the local jailhouse. Before that, she had spent the entire day being questioned back and forward by random agents. Most of it was about the events that happened in Rockwick, an event she was never at. The government agents soon went over with questions regarding the mysterious group, The Rise of Light to her. While Leticia wanted to lie, a tall, tan-skinned agent threw her pictures of her brother, Raphael, with several other members of the group.
Then, an agent showed her a picture of her brother on the day she had to argue with him about attempting to drag their little brother into this mess. That when Leticia broke down in tears, begging them to let her go.
“There is no doubt about it. This is the same group we dealt with years ago. They are just making a comeback,” The agent told the other one.
Leticia thought back to what the agent said. Wondering how a picture of Raphael and her arguing that day got into the hands of the authorities? Leticia twisted her body on the bed to stare at the wall. Boredom plagued her mind. She hated it here, considering they would not allow her to talk to her parents, especially her mother.
The air in the jail cell was so cold, the blanket that the jail staff provided to Leticia was not even close enough to keeping her warm. The guitarist was lucky enough to not have a roommate, only because the jail warden did not want a Supernatural prisoner mixing with the Outsiders prisoners. This was a temporary arrangement. This jailhouse felt like the same place she remembered years ago when she was eleven-years-old. That summer night when she was just a kid in a dark room, being interrogated by those government agents.
Still treated the same way, like she is a criminal.
“Leticia Hernandez, you got a visitor!” A jail guard called.
Leticia blinked her eyes in shock. The warden told her she could not have any visitors at all. After all, she was a “dangerous criminal from an extremist Supernatural organization”. Getting up from the bed, the cell door swung open when she stood next to it. A jail guard, who was almost as tall as her, escorting her down the hall to the visiting room.
Leticia ignored the whispers from the other female prisoners, who gossiped about her. When she arrived at the visiting room, Leticia gasped in surprise, seeing her mysterious visitor; this visitor was none other than Victoria! The model was wearing a nice, short, red dress with high heels, sitting at the white, long table and four chairs. Leticia deep down secretly wished she was wearing any outfit other than an ugly, orange, jail-issued jumpsuit! Sitting down at the table, she wondered why Victoria was here and how she could get visitation rights to see her?
Leticia played with her broken, malfunctioned wristband and asked, “Hey, Victoria. Um... This is awkward, but why are you here and how are you allowed to visit me?”
“Let’s not talk about how I got allowed to visit you. I just came to see how you are doing?” Victoria answered.
“I’m fine. If I wasn’t cold or forced to wear this god ugly jumpsuit, then being interrogated for shit that I didn’t even do,” The girl complained.
Victoria giggled at the comment about the “god ugly jumpsuit,” then brushed her hair back, “The only reason they put you in here is to make an example out of you and your family.” She leaned closer in her seat to talk to Leticia in a low tone, “I just came to tell you what has happened since you got locked up here. People ran your mother and younger brother out of town from what I learned from my friends, who live in the town. Let’s just say things are not looking too great for your band’s image.”
Leticia wanted to yell in anger at the fact her family was being attacked and her band’s image went down the drain an only matter of days! However, since the guard was still watching her, now is not the time to blow her typical rage. Still, Leticia did not care what happened to her, just as long as other people left her family and friends alone.
“So, tell something me else like, if is Trenton okay? Literally, I could use ANY good news right now,” Leticia said.
“Well, Trenton… I only have seen him once, when I watched the television with reporters bothering him and…” Victoria twisted a strand of her hair nervously, until Leticia interrupted.
“You know, just skip to any good news,” She waved her hand for her to stop and saw Victoria look over to the jail guard, who called for Leticia.
Time was up for them.
“The good news will come. Just to let you know, you have friends from the other side. That’s all you need to know,” Victoria gets up from her chair, giving a small smile at Leticia.
Then another guard escorted the young woman out. The guitarist did not understand what Victoria meant, and she had to leave the room too with a guard taking her away, back to her cell.
-----
Night at the prison is quiet, but Leticia could not sleep a dang wink. Her eyes were still open, and she tried so many ways to keep them shut. Leticia resorted to counting sheep to help her sleep. As she counted, she felt as if she was being watched and, if it was possible, did it just get colder? Leticia shooed off these thoughts as she continued to count.
Leticia almost closed her eyes, until she saw the cat-like, narrowed, red eyes in the dark, which made them so terrifying! Leticia bolted back up and rubbed her eyes to make sure she wasn’t seeing things.
“What are you staring at?” Leticia heard a voice snap, which she recognized as she turned her head to find the source of the sound.
The red eyes formed out of the shadows into a vampire woman, which Leticia finally looked at. It was Rose’s vampire sister, Mariuem! Leticia thought back to what Victoria told her about the good news: The good news was someone is going to break her out of this hell!
“Mariuem, how-?” Leticia blinked and the vampire woman had covered her mouth within seconds!
“No time to talk. Do you want out, girl? You better decide quickly.” Marieum hissed. Leticia got up to follow her without argument, then the vampire ordered, “Stay close, my Shadow Concealment will help you get out of here.”
Doing what Marieum ordered, Leticia stayed close as she saw Marieum using one of the prison keys, which Leticia was sure the vampire stole, opening her jail cell door. The alarms blared loud as guards headed to the cell. The girl sweats, fearing she will get caught for sure. However, when the guards arrived, no one could see them at all. They looked around her cell for a good bit until they gave up.
“Clear out! I want everyone to search every part of this prison for this monster!” One guard shouted.
Once the guards leave the cell, Leticia and Marieum could move forward to make their escape. The two walked down the hallways, avoiding every prisoner and guard. All thanks to the vampire’s power, that is. They headed down to the basement where Marieum pointed to the vents.
“This is the way I came in. We’ll use that to get out,” The vampire said.
Inch by inch, the two of them crawled through the vents, which seemed to take forever. Leticia breathed hard at every crawl because the longer they linger, the more likely they will get caught. Finally, at the end of the vents, they arrived near the jail gate, close to where a hole in the gate is. Marieum grabbed Leticia’s hand as they crawled through the hole, making their escape, unnoticed.
As they fled into the woods, going far away from jail and any civilization, Marieum threw her head back and cackled coldly. A shiver shot down Leticia’s spine from it. But she guessed, correctly, Marieum was laughing because she found the tricks she played on the guards with her powers amusing. They ran for a while, until they stopped in the middle of the forest as the vampire stood around, looking, as if she would meet someone.
Marieum called out, “Nick, Amelia! I did your dirty work! You better come out now before I change my mind and throw this girl back in jail!”
Leticia looked up to see Nick and Amelia come out of the bushes, which made her shocked in surprise. She thought to herself, putting two and two together to learn that this plan was a group effort. Amelia ran up to Leticia to check on her, looking up and down to see if she was unharmed.
“Leticia, I’m so glad you are all right! Don’t worry, we’ll get you to a safe place as soon as possible!” Amelia grabbed her hands in excitement.
“Marieum, you better not do that. Victoria wouldn’t like that,” Nick commented.
“Wait, hold the fuck up. How in the hell do you know Victoria!?” Leticia exclaimed, breaking the mood.
“I knew her from way back. That’s all you need to know,” Nick answered Leticia’s question casually.
“Now that that’s done, I will leave you and see what my no good sister is up to. I suggest the three of you can figure out what to do to keep this loud, human girl safe,” Marieum moved away from the group and disappeared into the forest where it was too dark to see her.
Leticia just stood to look at Nick and Amelia and felt a hint of anger when the vampire mentioned her sister, Rose. Now that she is free from jail, she did not know what to do next. All Leticia knew is she wanted to find her mother and little brother, then clear her name. Amelia held her hand tight to reassure her safety.
“It’s okay. You’re safe now. We’re going to help you fix this, no matter how long it takes,” Amelia said to Leticia.
Leticia hoped the girl was right. Tonight she will work hard to clear not only her name, but Darren and Chantel’s too.
Getting out of jail was only the first step.
