The seagulls squawked in the distance as Cupid had been wandering the nearly empty streets of the coast to go back home. With half of the population bunking in their homes due to quarantine and the rest rioting over something that is meant to benefit society and prevent the spread of the disease. In his personal opinion, it was just a bunch of entitled upper-middle-class people looking to stroke their ego and flaunt their privileges by rioting over inane issues. He reached his private residence. One his brother bought for him a few years ago after finally having a stable income after their shitty parents failed their jobs as parents. The one where it was their job to provide for their kids; instead, their father left them for another family and their mother refused medicine and believed in bullshit snake oil salesmen and their 'alternative medicine' that was cheaper and quicker to use.
'Well', Cupid mused, 'They were right on one thing. It was cheap and quick to lead their mother to her death.'
He continued walking down the sand-covered path, feeling the tiny grains reach into the insides of his slippers. The sound of the waves and the smell of the ocean always had a way of calming him down. His brother said it was because he was born on a cruise trip. Cupid called bullshit on that story but then again when he was born everything in the family was going down the drain and it was only his brother who was his positive influence during that time. He jogged to the front, waving cheerfully at his boyfriend who was peeking from the beige curtains. He opened the door and was greeted by his boyfriend who cheerfully ushered him in.
"Welcome home Cupid!"
He gave his boyfriend a look from top to bottom, enjoying his bare chest littered with love marks from earlier in the day. Lark helped him carry the bags he was carrying for tonight's barbecue. Eros, his older brother, was visiting and invited a few private guests for the party.
"Is my brother here?" Cupid asked, removing his mask and grabbed a cold drink from the refrigerator. He popped open the can, enjoying the sound as he took the clean glass that Lark offered, who informed him that his brother was going to arrive with his boyfriend later.
"Thanks love." Lark blew him a kiss from across the counter, as he was sorting through the different items that Cupid bought.
"And before you complain, I made sure to follow your grocery list and had some cash to buy what I want." Lark rolled his eyes at Cupid's insistence on his presumed wrongdoing. He decided to ignore his pouting boyfriend and focus on preparing food for the small party later tonight. Cupid stretched his arms, sighing in relief as the tension left his muscles.
"Alright, I'm going to take a quick nap, let me know when you need help, okay?" Cupid cupped his boyfriend's soft cheeks and pressed a light kiss on his plump lips.
"See you later, my darling Nightingale."
Lark returned his kiss and gently pushed Cupid away as he returned back to his work. He washed his hands, glancing at the defrosting meat that they were going to use for the party. He timed it so that by the time everyone arrived, the only thing that the bbq had to be done was to be grilled. Mentally he noted to himself to wake up his boyfriend so that he could make a small batch of different wood chips for the grill and smoker. He washed his hands before the meal prep and made sure that everything he needed was laid out. He opened one of the cans and mixed some of the ingredients to make the sauces for the gogi-gui. He got his measuring cups and started to prepare the Bulgogi sauce. He dragged the ginger, garlic, and green onions and the knife board.
He crushed the garlic cloves and dragged them to the side for later use. Then he finely chopped the green onions and used a grater on the ginger. He got a clean pan and turned on the stove. He sprinkled the slowly warming pan with sesame oil and dropped the ingredients he chopped. He sighed in satisfaction as the items sizzled in the heat, the smell making him hungry.
He opened his Spotify, scrolling through the albums, and found his dance fun playlist. He pressed the shuffle playlist and it landed on Egotistic by mamamoo. He started tapping his foot in sync with the music as he continued to prepare for the small party later. He was in the middle of Ching: Revisited and a Krumping pose when his boyfriend walked in wearing nothing but his boxer briefs and blinked rapidly as he saw his normally reserved boyfriend dancing energetically. He wanted to capture the moment so he sneaked back to his room to grab his phone and hurried back. He recorded Lark's dance for a few seconds before he switched his phone to photo mode to take a couple of still shots. In his rush to take photos of Lark dancing adorably, he forgot to turn off the flash and his boyfriend froze at an ending pose of Aya.
"Cupid."
He decided to ignore Lark's murderous, yet admittedly hot glare. Cupid gave a carefree laugh, giving his boyfriend a wide grin.
"Hey, yourself baby."
"Don't call me baby, delete that Cupid." Cupid decided to pretend to contemplate and stuck his tongue out. "Nope." Lark crossed his arms, staring his boyfriend down. Then he calmly turned off all the stove burners and took off running towards his boyfriend. Cupid let out a loud shriek as his boyfriend tackled him. Lark laid on his boyfriend's well-defined stomach. His hand clutching Cupid's phone with a victorious grin.
"Take that!" Lark declared a shit-eating grin on his face. Cupid stared at his boyfriend's jubilant expression, dazed from seeing his boyfriend's rare breath-taking smile and probably from hitting his head on the floor. Cupid shifted his hands to grip Lark's hips and reached over to kiss him. Lark let out a muffled yelp of surprise before melting into the kiss.
"I love you my darling nightingale."
"And I love you, Cupid. Even if you take embarrassing footage of me." They ended up staying on the floor, shirts flying as they made out. Just as they were about to take things to the next level a gruff voice spoke out.
"I see you're making use of the house I bought for you, dear brother of mine."
Cupid looked over Lark's flushed face and love-marked neck, seeing his brother, Eros' bemused expression, and Kaito's singular visible eye staring at them, whether he was judging them in his head Cupid didn't care to know. It wasn't like Kaito was a prude or unfamiliar with public acts of intimacy. Lark burrowed his face in between Cupid's neck and shoulder, shame flooding his features.
"I thought we still had a couple of hours until the party?" Cupid asked, looking around the room for a clock that didn't exist.
"There's about an hour until it starts but I figured Kaito and I would help out," Eros replied, moving into the kitchen staring at the laid-out dishes with a critical eye, approving the quality of the dishes. While they were talking Lark stood up, face still pink with embarrassment. He bowed to both of the adults in the room, receiving a bow from Kaito in return and a nod of acknowledgment from Eros before he excused himself. He gave Cupid a quick peck and left the three alone.
"Hmm... it seems like you had everything handled, this was my future brother-in-law's work wasn't it?"
Cupid looked at his brother, offended. "Excuse me, you don't know that. I could have made those." Eros looked at his younger brother unamused. "My kitchen would beg to differ." Before Cupid could plead his case or make any form of retort, Kaito chimed in; "Remember celebrating Lark's acceptance as a Concert Violinist? The great burning of The Allure?"
Cupid glared at them, a pout forming on his lips. He knew they were right but he refused to acknowledge the great burning. It wasn't his fault that Lark's acceptance notice papers flew into the open fire and near the spilled alcohol. Cupid huffed, standing up. "Well, he was almost done. You two can finish the rest and clean up then. Since you decided to barge into our house." He said as he stormed out of the room ignoring Eros' jabs of it being 'his house' and Kaito's presence.
Both of them got dressed, the marks of their intimacy hidden in a nice pair of matching short-sleeved button-ups and loose board shorts. In the short time that they had left to get ready, Kaito had somehow gotten into his casual visual kei look and Eros had traded his three-piece attire for a loose fishnet shirt that Cupid was sure wasn't his and black skinny jeans. Their small group of friends had also arrived.
"Finally, we can start the party!" Xanxus cheered, Sunflower Spirits in his hands. As they went nearer to the group Lark and Cupid eventually separated as Ruth and Amelie quietly made their way to Lark and greeted him, the three of them absorbed into their own discussion that Cupid was too far away to hear. Ozark gave a non-existent and shallow nod towards him before the poor guy got roped into an immediately intense discussion between Savio and Axton. The party continued onwards late into the night, Eros somehow getting approval to set off fireworks into the property. Though, his connections might have helped with it. Still, the fireworks were a beautiful sight to see on the rare occasion where the moon's light pierced through the heavy smog that covered the skies and the stars twinkling with the beautiful display.
