In the darkness of the dream world, Yu Na felt again the presence of someone she didn’t know. The same person that came into her dreams on the very first day she came into this world.
‘You’re quite the persistent one, aren’t you, Yu Na? Why can’t you die?’ asked the shadow
Yu Na tried to look around her, but all she could see was the darkness that surrounded her. She was aware that it was a dream, but she didn’t know why it felt so surreal.
‘You talk quite a lot for someone who doesn’t even show her face! Show yourself, then we can truly talk!’ as Yu Na shouted, the shadow laughed
For the first time, the shadow stood in front of her. The darkness vanished, and, in the white room that she was in, she saw her reflection in front of her. Who was this shadow and why did it have the same face as Yu Na?
‘Can’t you recognize me? I’m your fears, your hopes, your dreams. I’m the death and I’m the life. I’m everything and yet nothing. You’re in the past because of your choices.’ the shadow laughed, then proceeded to continue in a harsh tone. ‘You don’t know what to do. To stay or to come back to your world. You don’t even know if what you experience is real or not.’
Yu Na was confused at everything the shadow said. She was dreaming, for a moment she tried to justificate the words that the shadow spoke. Maybe it was just her illusion, yet, the shadow, as if she was reading her thoughts, responded once again.
‘My Yu Na! My poor Yu Na!’ said the shadow as she got closer and held her face tightly with her hands ‘You wanted this! Don’t you remember? On the first day of september! Your actions lead to this fate!’
As if she hit her head, in that numbing pain that she felt, memories long forgotten seemed to reappear. Twelve days before Roseleen debuted, she remembered how, on that very fateful day, they had a meeting and they almost canceled their debut.
She was angry that the company wanted to cancel their debut because they didn’t raise enough anticipation from the public. Their company thought that they weren’t going to gain enough recognition and that it was better to sto before they lose too much money.
She remembered how she tried to argue with them, the girls worked so hard, she couldn’t let their effort go in vain. As she left the meeting, she saw a highschool girl in front of their company. The girl was promoting a project that she had, a second chance to happiness. If it wasn’t for what she's been through that day, maybe Yu Na wouldn’t notice the girl standing there, but now, she gave the girl a chance to explain to her what she was promoting.
Turns out, the girl’s project was about the perception of what people think of happiness and how long happiness lasts. A simple project for school. A project you wouldn’t think anything of. How was that day related to everything that’s been happening?
‘Now do you remember? What happened one year before the very tragic accident of yours?’ with a smirk on her face, the shadow looked at the girl
‘That doesn’t have anything to do with why I’m here! You’re full of nonsense.’ yelled Yu Na at the shadow
‘Oh! You can talk back now.’ laughed the shadow ‘You signed your fate there, yu na! You met the devil and you can’t even recall! I’m disappointed that you didn’t figure this out sooner, you’re boring.’ said the shadow as she let go of her grip with whom she held Yu Na’s face
The shadow turned her back at Yu Na, crossing her arms.
‘I was selfish. Until the end.’ the shadow recalled the last thoughts of Yu Na before that fateful incident
‘How… did you?’ asked with a shaking voice Yu Na
‘Didn’t I tell you who I am? I know everything, I’ve seen everything and I’m amazed at how selfish you are now. How can you not remember that day? You changed your fate just to forget the very first step? Can’t you even remember what answer you gave to the devil?’
Yu Na was taken aback. Everything that once was a blur, now it was clear. She remembered clearly what she wrote in that piece of paper that she signed.
‘For me, happiness is something that I never truly understood. When I chose this path, I was happy… yet, one year later, there was nothing left but emptiness. If I were to have another chance, even for a year, I would want to know what is the real happiness’
‘Now you remembered, didn’t you? That’s why you are here. You’ve got another chance to be happy! Why do you want to leave this world?’ jokingly asked the shadow
‘Then everything here is real? Yeong-hwan, Hyun-woo, Mister Han, the village, the kingdom, are all of them real?’
‘You’re finally realizing? Yes! Isn’t it amazing? You’ve got your chance to be written in history! They are real and everything you do here will have an impact on your world.’ stated the shadow as she turned around and looked at Yu Na.
‘I can’t believe all of this. It doesn’t make any sense. You’re just my imagination and everything is a lie.’
The shadow laughed. Everything that Yu Na said in that conversation amused her. She quickly approached Yu Na and hugged her. Whispering something into her ear, Yu na felt shivers down her spine
‘If you don’t trust me, then wait and see. You’re a ticking bomb. When a year will pass… BAM! You’ll meet your tragic death! Isn’t it amazing?’
Then, Yu Na suddenly got woken up by Yeong-hwan. She was covered in sweat and was trembling. The dream really shook her, as she suddenly embraced Yeong-hwan, feeling his heartbeat.
