There were occasional ex-Guardians patrolling the area but Kayden continued further toward the cargo hold. He found a pair of ex-Guardians chitchatting and casually leaning against the crates.
“I can’t wait to get a look at the women from this stock. The boss says his favorites are in here,” one guard said who was dressed to the letter as a rogue Cyril with slick back white hair and a red eye with tattoos abound. The other one—a shorter Cyril rogue with short spiky brown hair and outdated armor found himself getting impatient.
“Hmph. He keeps all the pretty ones,” he said. Kayden twitched to hear them.
“Well, can you blame him? He rarely ever finds any good-looking ones. Now that Incandescent human hybrid, she’s a pretty one,” the rogue said. Kayden’s ears perked at that.
“She won’t be after his outburst,” the guy said.
“I don’t see what the point is of being a collector if you’re just going to frack up your collection,” the first guy said.
“Yeah man, put them on a shelf or something…or take them down and play with them. I’m still trying to convince him to let me—,” the guy started before he made a loud gasp. The first rogue eyed him before he saw it appear as if he were being invisible attacked by the neck. Kayden was invisibly using all his self-control not to kill the guy but to just choke him out. After a faint struggle, the rogue went limp and dropped to the floor, out cold. Kayden appeared and faced the remaining rogue who gasped in surprise while lifting his rifle. Kayden took the rogue’s gun and bent the shaft upward.
“Where the frack is the Incandescent human hybrid?!” Kayden demanded. The rogue sweated.
“She’s in the boss’s chambers with the other women,” he said. Kayden snarled as he grabbed the rogue’s hand holding the rifle and crushed it with his mechanical hand, making the rogue cry out.
“Take me there or I’ll do that to your face,” Kayden threatened. The rogue sweated and nodded.
“O-Okay!” he panicked. Kayden cloaked and aimed his pistol at the center of the rogue’s back.
“If you tell anyone I’m here, I’ll shoot you in the back before aiming for your head,” Kayden seethed. The rogue gulped and marched forward and past other rogue Guardians. He made it to a nicer part of the ship before getting to a double door with two guards.
“Spokes, what are you doing here?” one guard asked. Spokes sweated.
“I need to see the boss,” Spokes said nervously. The guards noticed his broken hand and raised their brows.
“What the frack?” one asked. Suddenly one guard was invisibly knocked in the back of the head but the butt of a rifle, dropping limply out cold. The other guard panicked before his head was bashed against the side of the wall—not enough to kill him, but certainly enough for him to feel it long after he woke up. Spokes trembled as he wondered if he was next.
“You swear this is Carlix’s room?” Kayden asked. Spokes nodded quickly.
“I s-swear!” he exclaimed. Kayden twisted Spokes’ arm behind his back and broke it, making him cry out.
“Get lost,” Kayden said without a hint of remorse. Spokes went running away.
“Are you sure that was such a good idea?” Rio asked warily.
“We’re wearing armor, they’re not. We’ve got the upper hand. And I don’t give two shits about that goon—I need to get to Carlix, now,” Kayden said in a piercing voice that gave Rio the shivers. Kayden went to the access pad and punched it good with his mechanical arm to break it and make the door slide open. He saw several huddled figures jostle in the darkness. He reached into his utility belt and grabbed a flare before lighting it up and illuminating the room. He saw several aliens in chains and wearing practically nothing all shivering and scared of his presence. Then he looked closer and noticed dry blood and bruising. Some women were with missing teeth with the remaining ones chattering. Kayden felt sickened.
“I am a Guardian, my name is Kayden Royal. This is my Squire Rio. We are here to get you out of here,” Kayden said in a strong voice. A woman in the back jostled as she heard him and came crawling but fell to the floor after a whimper. Kayden immediately shifted his focus and walked toward them and knew right away it was a woman with a delicate frame. He held up the flare and knelt before his eye bulged. It was his lover—Felicia.
Kayden gently lifted her chin to face him and revealed a trembling and frightened face with bruising and a swollen eye. Her lip was bruised and busted too. Kayden trembled as his eye swelled with moisture at the sight of her. He just embraced her and held her as gently as he could. She trembled in his arms and squirmed. He suddenly realized he was as a Cyril to her—she had only seen him parade around as a human. He struggled to let her go but knew he couldn’t hold her if she was scared of him.
“Felicia, it’s me,” Kayden said softly as he quickly split his eye into two. As he opened them, tears streamed down his face but he forced a smile. Felicia’s eyes widened as she beheld Kayden. Her trembling hands reached out for him in desperation. He held them in his massive hands and pulled her in before she just jumped into his arms and whimpered loudly. Kayden lost his emotions and broke down into tears as he sat backward and just held her. Rio sniffled as he saw them unite.
“I’m here, Felicia. I finally tracked you down. I’m so damn sorry it took me so long to do it, but I’m here,” Kayden said as his voice trembled. Felicia cried in his arms and just held him as strongly as she could—which to him barely felt like a cuddle. He caressed the back of her head and just held her in his protective embrace.
“I would size down to hold you, but I’m in armor and it’s too dangerous to where it wouldn’t be a good idea to get us all out of here safely,” Kayden said with regret. He parted from her and looked her in the eyes. Her eyes were bright and full of joy as she wore a bruised smile. To him, it was the prettiest face in all of the universe. He embraced her again. A mix of joy, relief, and the most intense burning anger he had ever felt stormed in his hearts.
“I promise I’ll heal you to where you will never have a bruise again,” Kayden said.
“I heal over time, it’s okay. As part…Incandescent…I can heal from wounds like these,” Felicia said sadly. Kayden grimaced and found himself wanting to hold her tighter but quickly stopped so he wouldn’t hurt her. He just closed his eyes as tears remained in them.
“I have Felici with me…and Jenny, and Thomas,” Kayden said as if to give her hope to get her past the darkness. She smiled wide to hear him.
“Can we get out of here, please, Kayden?” Felicia asked as her voice trembled. He clutched her dearly and just held her a moment longer before letting go. He gently broke her chains and took the time to remove the cuffs. She rubbed her wrists and smiled at him. Rio came over and smiled at her.
“Hi, miss Felicia. I’m Rio, I’m his Squire. I’ll help get you out of here,” Rio said politely. She smiled at him and nodded.
“Thank God. I can’t wait,” she said. Kayden knelt and gently lifted her sweet chin. He wore the most loving expression she’d ever seen.
“Carlix…did he touch you?… What else did he do to you…?” Kayden asked barely able to restrain the rising anger in the pit of his stomach as it swirled like embers. She looked down but shook her head.
“No. He’s just a collector,” Felicia said. Kayden jaw tightened as he got to his feet.
“I’ll take care of it,” he whispered. Suddenly a tall figure came into the room behind them.
“What the shit?” a daunting tone asked from behind. Kayden turned around and saw a familiar man with a green mohawk and mechanical left arm—it was Carlix. Kayden narrowed his eyes and started marching for him.
“Protect Felicia and the others with your life, Rio,” Kayden said as his eyes merged to one since he was so angry. He came rushing Carlix so fast that he didn’t even see Kayden until a mere inch from his face but managed to stumble out of the way from a powerful blow. Carlix immediately pinged someone on his wristband as he started to step back so his lackeys could arrive. He felt an ominous aura come from Kayden that made him feel light on his feet. Kayden pursued him and grabbed him by his mechanical arm and pulled him back—but instead of moving his whole body, he just jerked the entire mechanical arm off instead. Carlix cried out and tried to get away now that he was armless. Kayden didn’t let go of the arm but leaped the distance and used Carlix’s mechanical arm to punch him right in the side of the face, knocking a few teeth out and a chortle of blood.
Kayden punched him once more before he found himself tackled off him and went thudding back with six rogues holding him down. Kayden growled and somehow shoved them all off and spun to his feet while knocking them all down, his adrenaline roaring. Rio stood in front of Felicia protectively as she quivered in fear. Kayden started punching each of the rogues hard enough to crunch their bones as loud POP! CRACK! Was heard per each blow as the rogues cried out and staggered around to keep in the fight with broken fists or arms. The vision of Felicia’s bruised face in his mind’s eye was all it took for Kayden to lose it. He began to fight more aggressively as arms were literally ripped off with blood spattering all over. He seemed to have his eye alight with the fire of rage as he growled and seethed per each strike and rip. There had to be around sixty rogues in the heated battle all vying at their chance to stop the Guardian. But as each one confronted him, they fell almost as quickly as they stood. One thug Cyril snuck up behind Kayden and attempted to knock him out with the barrel of his gun—Kayden turned around and boxed his ears, unafflicted by the maneuver. The thug staggered, displaying a complete loss of equilibrium—Kayden took the opportunity to break his jaw with a powerful fist. More rogues tried to tackle him, but it seemed to give him more steam to knock himself free and lunge at each one of them like a cornered Sabretooth Gnasher Ridgeback.
As the rogues were going down like fodder, twenty more showed up. Carlix tried to slip away, but in between the blows Kayden was throwing, Kayden reached out and grabbed Carlix by the back of his shirt, yanking him back before punching him square in the jaw—knocking out more teeth. Kayden was tackled again since his focus shifted in the heat of his rage and he was muscled down by ten Cyril. Gunfire suddenly rang out as Kaleb and Sian came in with their rifles on stun. Kayden cried out as he burst free from the rogues and punched them so violently they went flying. His eye darted for Carlix and spotted him toward the edge of the crowd. Kayden rushed him in between the other rogues and pinned him. He snarled as he started to throw a serious beat down, and since his reinforcements arrived, this time the other rogues couldn’t tackle him off. Kayden beat him beyond black and blue and completely toothless with teeth scattered amongst spatters of blood and clacking on the floor. Carlix was battered and within an inch of his life before Kayden suddenly stopped with his trembling fist two inches from Carlix’s face.
“You worthless scum!!” Kayden roared and spat in his face. Carlix was trembling all over in sheer terror of Kayden’s unbridled rage. Kayden shook his fist and grimaced before lunging off of Carlix, crying out as he bashed the ground with both fists hard enough to dent it. He panted as he tried to calm down before he felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned around quickly before noticing it was Kaleb.
“We got them, Kayden. We need to get the women out of here. Come back to us,” Kaleb said worriedly at his friend’s terrifying anger still lingering. Kayden paused before he looked over to a shocked Felicia. Kayden suddenly tensed up as he looked around and saw the missing limbs and blood everywhere. He suddenly felt something wet on his face and reached up to feel blood spatter against the side of it.
“Frack…” Kayden muttered as he got to his feet. He turned to face his lover and looked sadly to her. She saw the softness in his eye and reached up to him. He peeled off his armor and let it clank to the ground as he shrank down and parted his eyes before she leaped into his arms. He closed his eyes and just held her.
“Forgive me, Felicia. I lost myself,” Kayden whispered. Felicia nuzzled against his shoulder and whimpered.
“It’s okay. You’re back. My Kayden is back,” Felicia whispered. Kaleb looked at the carnage and how the men writhed on the ground or were long passed out and sweated.
“Alright, Sian, Rio…let’s get the women out of here first,” Kaleb said as he sighed. They started clearing them out before Kayden put his armor back on and cleaned up the bodies to his ship long after Felicia and the women were rescued. He went back to get Carlix and heard footsteps. Rio rushed to his side the moment Kayden lifted his pistol—he wasn’t carrying a rifle since he was sure the ship had been emptied. A Guardian came up and surprised them. They both stood with their guns aimed at each other.
“Guardian Kayden Royal?” the Guardian asked as he lowered his rifle. Kayden lowered his pistol. The Guardian had short brown spiky hair and a blue eye. Kayden still had two eyes but was at his Cyrilin height.
