A couple was running fast, escaping an invisible threat that came after their life. Both didn't know if it was the right way or it was the right decision. When Walker insists, they run and attempt to return to the capital city.
The fear and anxiety have taken over Rin and Edwin's rationality after witnessed over the gruesome they had never experienced before.
Hastily step, shaking breath. Edwin didn't know how much further he must grab the hand of the goddess while escaping the terror at the night market. The further they ran, the more corpses were lying on the ground. Each was cut in half, meeting the final days with wide-open eyes. Unknowingly what caused the numbness slowly faded into the eternal darkness.
"What's going on in here?! Why—why does everyone have to—"
"Save your breath, my lady. We still have a long way to escape from this nightmare path," said Edwin. His body was trembling but remained calm on the outside.
Rin pulled her step and dragged Edwin to a halt. She can't remain calm after witnessing such terror happen before her eyes. There must be something she could do, or maybe her sister, Cynthia before things worsened.
Blood spilled all over the ground on the road alley, and the crowded marketplace suddenly became a death alley. The silence was the only atmosphere when they could only hear breathing on their own.
"WE—we have to stop this, Edwin. Cynthia probably has a way. So—"
Edwin didn't make his reply. Instead, he slapped Rin's cheek, and she didn't foresee this outcome.
"Commander can't protect her now when he's making the wrong decision to push Ms. Cynthia away. Do you think we may stand a chance against this monster? What makes you think Ms. Cynthia has the odds of winning?"
It is true in every word spelled by Edwin. Walker already makes a wrong decision when he pushes Cynthia away during the last moment before the barrier separates them. What makes this unwitted girl in front of him think Cynthia may stand a chance against this great terror?
"She—she might not be able to do anything. But—but, the other self of her—"
Edwin pulls on Rin's collar as soon as he hears the 'other self' spoken by Rin. How is that even possible? When did Rin notice Nanami's presence?! Does the information regarding what happened last week ago get leaked?! Or did Cynthia expose herself voluntarily?
"HOW?! How did you know about her other self?!!"
"Sh-she didn't hid—hide it. Let—let go of—me—"
Suffocated over the grip on her neck caused by the tight collar, Rin begged Edwin to put her down and remain calm. It sure does give Rin a shock when Edwin brutally shows unpredictable behavior.
Edwin got himself into a mess of anger and reflected on himself after hearing Rin suffocated voice. He didn't know how his emotion got carried away, but his panic behavior does make Rin wonder what secret they tried to hide when Cynthia had already told her a long time ago.
"Since when did you know about Nanami?" Edwin asked. Undoubtedly, he shares the same information as Walker when both were the closest assets to TatSuet.
"Since she was in her fifteen. Remember one time when the east side of the city got blasted by unknown energy?" Rin asked if Edwin was still remembering the incident of Cynthia's first awakening.
"The east city!?"
"The stadium incident. Although not many people were aware of it as no death was reported during the process. Thanks to aunt Yun, who successfully contained her other self, Cynthia managed to live until today," Rin explained. She realizes the wrath caused by Nanami, the terror displayed by her other self, was different, on par with the incredible power of an ancient deity.
"That incident?! Did she cause it?! The Last Devil?!!"
"Hey! Watch your mouth! Who are you to say she was the devil?! It was another demon who sneakily snuck up onto her soul and dominated her body. Since then, she has always blamed herself for having her father's blood running through her veins."
"No. It was Ms. Cynthia all along. It just a—" Edwin can't say further. He knows the rest of the story told by TatSuet. But rather to believe one side story, does Rin have another version of the story to unfold and deliver to his understanding?
"Why does she have to blame her father for this? Wasn't that both her parent was the ruler of heavenly realms who protected—"
"—Who told you that Cynthia's father was from heavenly realms?!"
He was dumbfounded again by the statement conjecture by Rin. It seems like the situation gets more complicated than he expected. What makes Rin say that Cynthia's father wasn't from heavenly realms? What does that mean? Does that mean the girl they've assigned to guard against the remnant of darkness came from demon realms? The last heir of the demon realms?!!
Rin makes chuckles upon seeing Edwin's dumbfounded reaction to her question. She's foolish enough to spill her sister's secret over some stranger she met two hours ago. Only today did she realize why her mother and other deities tried so hard to protect Cynthia from this society.
"Cynthia's father was a mortal in the past before the world ended. Only after he receives a blessing through heavenly grace do both meet and fall in love with each other. The story twisted a bit when it passed down to the neo-human."
"Is that so?" Edwin pulls a sigh of relief after Rin explains herself regarding the true identity of Cynthia's parents. But the truth remained buried as Rin managed to outwit herself to hide the ugly truth from the neo-human society.
"You did scare me awhile back there, Ms. Rin. Consider myself worried too much over my wild imagination." Edwin bows his head to apologize for his harsh treatment of Rin earlier, along with his suspicions towards Cynthia regarding her true identity.
Both heard Walker's voice loud and clear, shouting Cynthia's name from afar. Does that mean both of them already met up after a long run?
Unfortunately, the next
sound might petrify them as they heard Walker groaning over the pain. Along
with the sound of something intricate piercing through a body's flesh. What in
the world has happened?! Why does everything seem wrong tonight? Rin can't make
her wild speculation for now, but all they can do right now is to run toward
the scene and pray that every possible running on their mind was just another
