After staring at me for a long minute, Sonia responds. “Are you insane?” Well, out of all of the things she could’ve called me, that was pretty tame. “What do you mean?” “What do you think I mean, dumbass!? How the hell are you planning on killing the Spirit of the planet? More importantly, how does a dimwit like you even know of Terrene’s existence? The last time I checked on you, you were just some random teenager living in a boring ass fly-over state. I know that you are not a descendant of a mage!” Wow. I am impressed by how many insults Sonia can throw at me in a couple of sentences. “Calm down, I just read it on the internet.” Sonia's eyes went wide and her mouth jaw hit the floor.” But that’s not important.” “It is important,” she interrupts. “I can’t have you going around thinking you can kill a goddamn planet!” “We will never know until we try. Besides, that thing is dangerous. The planet killed billions of lives in an instant. If it did it once, it can do it again. I was giving these powers so I might as well use it for something good.” Sonia leans back in her chair. “Look at you, ‘Mr. Hero’. You can do what you want, my job is just to observe you. If you want to die playing the hero, be my guest.” “You’re wrong Sonia. I don’t want to kill Terrene because I want to be a hero or anything like that. I’m doing it for selfish reasons.” That’s right. I want to kill the planet's spirit because it killed my friends and family. Hell, it even got me killed. Technically, the Lich was a Servant of Death, but still. I won’t be able to live with myself if somebody else went through what I went through. But that brings up something that I’ve been feeling ever since I woke up. Or what I am not feeling. I have not felt anything ever since I woke up, not sadness, anger, regret, nothing. I feel like I have become a machine when I became an Apostle for Death. The only thing that I can retain is my memories of those feelings. As long as I still have the memories of those feelings, then I won’t become some sort of monster. A loud banging sound snapped me out of my thoughts and almost made me jump out of my chair. Sonia had somehow made it to me without me noticing. “What are you doing?” I asked her. Sonia is smiling mischievously. “I just got an idea. Since you want to save everybody from the planet, why don’t we head to the Arena?” The Arena? What is that some sort of gladiator thing?” “Bingo!” Sonia snaps her fingers. “Why would I go to this Arena?” “Well if you manage to win the Arena, then they will give you a Mystic Relic!” “Can you please stop saying these words like they have any meaning to them?” “Mystic Relics are magical artifacts, can you at least figure that out?” “OK, but why would I care about a Mystic Relic?” “Duh! Because you’ll need a Mystic Relic if you’re going to reach Terrene, let alone find her.” Sonai says while rolling her eyes. If I’ve got no choice, then I’ll enter this Arena. “I’ll do it? Where do I go to sign up?” “Hold on there, cowboy. Before we even humor that idea, we need to get you battle-hardened. The only fight you’ve ever been in is with the Lich King and you ended up in a coma for thousands of years. If you actually want to last a round in the Arena, then you’re going to have to do exactly as I say, got it?” I nod. “Good! Now follow me.” Sonia lives in a high-rise apartment on the very top floor. I feel like a bum just being inside of the hallways. I follow outside of her apartment. “What!” I shout. A lion was walking upright wearing clothes! Tiny fairies fly casually in the air like butterflies. There are no roads or cars to drive on them, it seems that people fly if they want to get around. “Will you stop staring, you flipping amoeba! You’re being rude!” “Sorry.” Sonia sighs. “As long as you understand, then it’s fine. Come on, follow me. With Sonia taking the lead, we start walking down the street. I try my best not to stare at the fantastical creatures that are walking past me “Where are we going, Sonia?” “We’re going out of the city. Terrene created monsters called Proto-Beast that attack people on sight. To prevent casualties, angels (the holy ones not my kind) created holy barriers that protected them from the Proto-Beast with largely populated areas like cities and villages.” “I see. Well, that’s just more proof of why Terrene needs to die.” I say with confidence. “I’m sure people will be happy that you decided to save them from the monster planet.” Sonia is sarcastic, but I bet there are plenty of people who would be glad to be rid of Terrene and its monsters. We stopped at a red light. A train appeared from the middle of space and came racing through. “Can I ask you a question, Sonia?” Sigh “If you must.” “Why are you helping me out?” “Because you’re clearly insane and I want to see if you succeed in your stupid ass plan. Besides, I need to observe your capabilities, and watching fights is easier for me.” “So you don’t care about the people of the planet?” “Look kid, I’ve been alive longer than the planet itself. I don’t make it a habit of getting attached to anybody.” She lived longer than the planet” Just how old is she? And is she just like me, a human transformed into a Servant of Death? I didn’t ask because the light went green and we continued on our journey.
