“You don’t have to.” That calming voice, inside her mind, it rocked her from the hair on her head to her toes.

“Grandfather?” Iola almost choked.

“I have faith in you, my child.”Haas Starlight’s memory filled every fibre of her being. “So do your friends. Free your fears, and take wing.”

Iola shivered as her grandfather’s voice filled her with hope and courage. Nesmir was right all along. She had to find herself, find everything that her family ever was, within herself. She smiled, sensing her own will and desire taking shape, coalescing and pushing back at her confinement.

“Nesmir!” She called out with more conviction that she knew she ever had.

“Iola!” She rejoiced at his hope filled response. “Iola. I knew you would never give up.”

“I would, if not for you.” She let her inner voice soar. “Come to me, Nesmir. We are one.”

She felt him. All of him. The man she knew and the man she wanted to know. Their minds fused, memories collided and desires entwined. Iola felt a surge she had never experienced before. He mirrored her feelings. They were one, each completing the other.

Her eyes ablaze, Iola watched the dark shroud of evil around her wilt and weaken, then fall away from her like a wounded animal. She heard a loud shriek. Muiranda! Somehow breaking out of the gloom around her had also hurt Muiranda in some way.

“What?” The taller woman gaped. “How are you... No! No!”
