It’s been over a thousand years since I returned from the Chaos Dimension. All of that time I’ve spent in this realm, I’ve been helping out people who are living on the Earth with the business my master, Angelus, created called Millennium.
I find it odd that the Avatar of Chaos created a business that helps out the people, but as long as I am getting paid, I don’t really question it.
I should address the elephant in the room and mention that Earth is drastically different from the last time I saw it. After all of humanity died, angels came down from Heaven and killed a lot of the Proto-Beast that populated the planet. After that, other species who hide from humanity have come out of hiding and reclaimed the planet that was once theirs.
They fixed all of the problems with the planet that humans have caused with their negligence, indifference to the planet, and pursuit of profit. I'm not trying to sound preachy or anything, but I can understand why the planet did what it did. But, there were billions of others who did not partake in destructive actions so I consider myself the enemy of the planet.
I have no basis for this theory, but I think the planet sees me as the enemy as well. The reason is simple: the Proto-Beast are still attacking people even though they’re not humans. Angelus told me that they act as white blood cells that attack infections that enter the body. Since the Proto-Beast can’t tell an Apostle from an angel, they attack everybody indiscriminately.
Not like it's a problem for me because that’s the kind of business Millennium is: Proto-Beast extermination is the main business.
We do just about any job imaginable as long as it’s legal or sex work. But right now business has been really slow. Other monster-slaying businesses have popped up and even a government agency was formed five- hundred years ago. But since we were the first to do it, we have that going for us.
When I’m not out there busting up monsters, I’m doing finances for the company. Well, at least I am still able to use my degree.
If I’m being honest, I would rather be outside fighting monsters than pushing numbers. Hell, I want to learn new magic spells.
Today is just Artemisia and myself. While I’m busy working, Artemisia is just sitting on the couch in the office reading a book.
Alexandria told me that Artemisia has no real skill to contribute to office work. That’s fine, but why does she have access to the kitchen?
Today she mixed ranch dressing and honey into her coffee. I understand that she is the Ultimate Life Form, but she must know that that combination doesn’t work. Also, she sips her coffee really loud.
This silence (and loud sipping) is really driving me insane.
“Hey Artemisia, how about I make you some coffee sometime? I can make a mean cup of joe!” I said, smiling at her.
“No thank you,” she declined politely. “You make your coffee too sweet for my palate.” Yell, it didn’t hurt to ask.
I slammed my head on my desk.
“Ughh! I am so bored!”
Artemisia put her coffee on the coaster.
“If you need something to do, why don’t we spar together?”
I lift my head from the desk.
“I would love to, but I have to stay here just in case a customer comes in.”
That’s highly unlikely to happen, as the business has been slow for a couple of days. Which is fine by me as I don’t really need to eat or anything. The only problem that leaves me is paying rent for this building and having clean clothes. That doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy eating, I do it when I have the chance. For me, eating out is a luxury that I can hardly afford these days.
“That’s fine,” Artemisia says smiling. “Just create clones to watch the front.”
“I can do that, but only for myself. If I was to create a copy of yourself, I would need to have your measurements.”
Artemisia smiles proudly.
“There’s no need for that, Norah. I can create copies myself.”
“I am the Ultimate Life Form remember? I have the DNA of every species that ever existed, including the Daboro race. The Dabororians have a special ability to create exact copies of themselves just like cells.”
She puffs her chest with pride.
“Well if that’s the case, let’s get out of here. I’ve been dying of boredom.”
Artemisia tilts her head.
“But Norah, are you not immortal?”
I shake my head.
“No Artemisia, it’s an expression we, uh, humans have to say that they’re really bored.”
“I am just pulling your leg, I am aware of Earthlings' expressions.”
We head down to the basement where Millennium keeps its training grounds called “Training Grounds”.
It’s as big as the city but more boring to look at. It’s nothing but rocks and dirt, at least Angelus had a fake sky painted on the roof.
As for our sparring weapons, we both chose wooden swords. We take our stances and are standing about fifteen feet apart from each other. At this close range, I could easily close the distance in an instant and go in for the attack. But Artemisia's stance has no weaknesses so charging for an attack is not the smartest move.
“If you won’t make the first move, then I will!”
Artemisia vanishes before my eyes.
I thought I could close the distance between us in a flash, but she just appeared in front of me or it seemed like she just appeared in front of me.
She attacks me with an upward swing that I manage to block with my sword. I am sent flying upwards towards the roof and go through the roof and through the floor of the main building. I even go through the food on the main building and fly to the clouds.
My whole body aches from acting like a living wrecking ball and I’m starting to get cold due to my being at such a high altitude.
At this rate, I might actually go into space. As if reading my mind, Artemisia appears behind me and hits my back with her wooden sword.
Pain shoots through my body as I go hurling towards the ground. Which is the absolutely terrifying thing I have ever experienced up to this point. I would rather face a thousand of those giant robots Intelligencia made again than go through this.
I crash back to the ground like a meteorite. Before I hit the ground, I managed to cast a reinforcement spell on my body that would turn my skin hard as steel. So I only suffered a few broken bones and internal bleeding which should heal in about thirty seconds.
Artemisia comes inside of the crater I created and bends down to my level.
“Are you OK?”
“I’m fine,” I said, spitting out blood. “Just let me sit here for a minute.”
“Oh yes, I forgot you can self-heal your wounds. Even still, I think we should call it here.”
I get up, ignoring my broken ribs, and put on a fake smile.
“This is nothing compared to what Angelus puts me through. I’m honestly surprised that I managed to keep my sanity through it all..”
Artemisia offers me her hand and I gladly take it.
“Of course, you do work for the Avatar of Chaos after all.”
I wipe the dirt off of my clothes even though it is useless.
Artemisia widens her eyes.
“Are you sure?”
I give her a reassuring smile.
“Of course. I’ll get hostile if I don’t get in a few fights every now and again. And please, don’t hold back, I can take it as long as I can heal myself.”
“Very well. We will continue, but I will stop the session if it appears that you hit your limit.”
“With this new body of mine, I don’t think I have any limits.”
I leap out of the crater and take a few more leaps to put some distance between me and Artemisia.
“I’m ready whenever you are.
For the next two hours, I get my ass handed to me time and time again.
