Ellie pulled out the business card Juliette had given her from her pocket and peered down at it. She took a deep breath and scanned the card with her phone. It went straight to voicemail.
“Hi. It’s the postal girl from earlier who delivered your letter. I… you offered me a job, and I just wanted to say that I wanna take the job.” Ellie stuttered, she put the phone back in her pocket and breathed out.
“Wow, great delivery.” Skully teased.
“That was terrible. She’s never gonna give me the job like that.” Ellie lamented while they went into the lift.
Outside the apartment door a man was waiting, he was not very tall, wearing a dark grey tailored suit. His dark brown hair combed back barely touching his neck, his green eyes focused on Ellie and the skull.
“This guy doesn’t seem suspicious at all.” Skully jested.
Ellie swallowed, her neck hairs stood up, she could tell something was off.
“You there.” The man called to her.
She glanced at Skully.
“I think we should get the fudge back out.” Skully warned, were they going to get into trouble again so soon?
Ellie ignored the man, walking right past him.
“I’m talking to you.” The man growled, grabbing Ellie’s arm.
She looked straight at his face, it looked terrifying. She pulled her arm back, and ran for the lift, her heart was beating faster, she felt the knot in her stomach again. Danger. Every part of her body was telling her she was in real danger.
He caught up with her swiftly, catching her arm again.
“Fudge, wiggle out of it. The lift is over there, just run like hell.” Skully shouted at Ellie. She tried to wiggle, but his grip became increasingly firmer.
“The skull.” He hissed. “Just give it to me and I will let you go.” The man assured, menacingly staring at her.
Her eyes shifted to Skully. This man knows something about him? She thought, still trying to get out of his grip.
“What do you know about the skull!?” Ellie exclaimed, furrowing her eyebrows, staring straight at him.
The man laughed. “Just give me the skull, what I know or do not know is none of your business young lady.” He concluded, seizing the skull with his other hand, pulling it.
“No. No. No. This fudging guy is not allowed to grab my skull. Ellie! Scream or something, maybe Artemis is home.” Skully panicked, again he couldn’t do anything, he was helpless.
Ellie screamed as loud as she could, her voice was sharp and piercing. It only lasted a moment before the man covered her mouth. Ellie felt her chest tightening up, her heart racing, an overwhelming fear flooding over her. “Fudge.” Skully muttered.
A green glow flooded everything for a brief second, before Ellie’s eyes shimmered green and Skully was back in her body. Skully narrowed his eyes, taking a hold of the man’s neck with one hand, he sank Ellie’s teeth into the fingers that were covering her mouth. The man pulled back, glaring at Ellie. He knew something was different, he could see it. He glanced at the skull. Could this be his doing? He pondered.
Skully put the skull down and raced towards the man, leaping off the floor, landing a high kick right in his face. The man stumbled slightly, but before he could catch his composure, Skully landed another kick straight in his chest. He stumbled back some more, coughing up traces of blood. Skully very swiftly came for another blow, the man landing on the floor. Skully whipped out Ellie’s pocket knife from her backpack and held it against his neck.
“Tell me every fudging thing you know about the skull or I will end you.” He sneered, his eyes glowing a tinge of green.
The man chuckled. “This was unexpected, I did not see this coming. I guess you don’t remember me… Which is for the best considering.” The man smirked, locking eyes with Skully.
“You know me…?” Skully inquired, he did feel something familiar.
“Know you? That’s an understatement! There’s no one that knows you better than I do brother…” The man snickered, knocking the knife out from Skully’s grip, seizing it before it dropped down.
Skully moved back. My brother? He didn’t feel anything, no memories, only confusion. He stared at the man.
“Are you really my brother? Why don’t you wanna tell me anything more?” Skully demanded, his voice increasingly aggravated.
The man twirled the knife around with his fingers. “You should stay dead. I’m not sure what this is, but they won’t like it.” He remarked in a more serious tone, before glancing at Skully again, chuckling.
“It was fun meeting you again! I am Wren, since you don’t seem to remember.” He chimed, throwing the knife right at Skully before he jumped out the window.
Skully caught the knife, he stared at it. Wren? It sounds familiar. Why can’t I remember? He had a bewildered expression as he entered the apartment.
