The voices were speaking all around me, but as I looked around there was no one in sight - at that moment I thought that it was that monster’s spirit still tormenting me even tho it was in pieces.
But then they suddenly stopped, and instead of them I heard shouts coming from around the house, I awkwardly stood up and propped myself against the wall.
I fell from the second floor - so my entire right side was in pain, to no surprise.
And so I shuffled my way towards the voice, when I got closer I recognized who it was - it was Dave, and he was already trying to break down the door of the house.
I painfully shouted for him to stop, and as he saw me he quickly ran to me.
“Kid you look like hell! What happened to you!?”
Instead of saying anything I shuffled to the front door and opened it.
As the monster was gone - all the lights in the house came back, showing all the damage that was caused by it.
When I looked back at Dave his jaw was hanging low, it didn’t surprise me at all, if I was in his position I would be looking similarly.
“Did a bear get into the house or something!? Jack will be livid when he’s back!”
I lightly laughed, which caused my insides to feel like they are going to come out, so I decided not to do that for a while.
“Yeah… A bear, I would rather it be a bear than that monstrosity”
Dave looked at me with a terrified look.
“What monstrosity? What are you talking about!?”
I walked towards the stairs while waving for Dave to follow me, when we reached the hole in the wall I pointed to the bones lying on the ground outside.
“I know It will sound crazy, but that pile of bones is what’s left over of that monster, just imagine it being covered in tar and you will get the full picture”
Dave looked skeptically at me and took a breath.
“Alright, let's pretend that what you are telling me is real, how did you deal with it?”
“At this point - I don’t want to know, but a dozen black spikes just came out of the ground and pierced its skull”
“Ok… and that tar you were talking about, where did it go?”
“It just went into the ground - like water”
I could see Dave trying to piece all of this information together, but it seemingly gave him a headache as he grabbed his forehead with his palm.
“Kid, no offense but you are a disaster magnet”
“Oh, you saw the news?”
Dave’s face went pale and was filled with fear at the sound of my words.
We walked back downstairs and I found the TV remote amongst the rubble.
As the TV lit up I collapsed on the couch, I was in so much pain at this point that I couldn’t move.
Dave followed soon, but in his case - it was because of shock.
“I-I was just joking back then, what the hell is going on!?”
“If it makes you feel better - I'm just as confused as you are”
His emotion swiftly changed to anger, that comment of mine was certainly not needed.
“You!..” Then he quickly looked me over
"You stay here! I'm going to bring the doctor”
“Sure… and I... I’m just gonna take a nap”
And so the world went dark for me, I could briefly hear Dave's voice before that, but to me - all his words sounded like gibberish.
I don’t know for how long I was out of commission, but when I came to - I was sure that I was moved somewhere else.
By the smell of medicine lingering in the air - I instantly deduced that I was in some hospital, I could see the sun sitting high up in the sky from the window.
As I tried to move my head to look around I instantly felt dizzy and weak,
so I waited for a moment for it to go away and tried again.
The room was completely empty of any people, the only thing to greet me were the puke-colored walls.
And so - with no strength to move I waited for someone to finally show up, which took quite some time, the sun has almost set at that point.
Feeling hangry and bored I looked in the direction of the door - from which I heard the sounds of movement.
As the door opened there were two men in suits and what seemed to be the doctor following right behind them, they were talking about something - but seeing me wide awake and looking right at them interrupted their train of thought.
It looked like the men wanted to approach me but the doctor darted past them right to me.
“Dear god, can you hear me? Can you speak?”
With my throat feeling like a desert I answered.
“I can understand you just fine, but if you want our conversation to continue I will need some water”
Hearing my reply he walked out of the room, leaving me and the men in suits alone.
It took a few minutes for him to return with a cup of water, which he helped me drink.
“It’s a miracle that you are not a vegetable, with all the concussions you had in the past few days”
“Thanks for the positivity doc, will I be alright? I can’t move anything besides my mouth right now”
With a laugh doctor spoke again.
“It’s fine - we pumped you with a lot of painkillers, so it should pass soon”
Hearing that I relaxed a little bit.
But then our conversation was interrupted by the coughing of the men standing right behind the doctor.
Taking the hint he silently walked out of the room and closed the door behind him.
Then one of the men took out his phone and started reading aloud.
“Jonas Foltum, 18 years old, in the United States since May 23.
Lived with his aunt in the State of Florida for the past three months until his sudden disappearance 2 days ago”
After that - the other man began speaking.
“Now, I’ve got a question for you, along with you 70% of the American population has disappeared, so what is so special about you to pop up in the middle of nowhere and be the only one to be found so far?”
Fear tactics - check.
Black suits - check.
Stupid haircuts - check.
Yep, they were from some special services.
As I thought that - the man sighed and spoke again.
“Look, we just want to find the other missing people, so any information you can remember will be of great help”
Hearing that I decided to let my guard down a little bit.
“All the information you are looking for should be in the report of officer Dave, at least I hope he didn’t skip it thinking it was just some mad ramblings”
The agents looked at each other, and one of them walked to the side and started calling someone.
“Still, it will be better for you to recollect it again, maybe you'll remember something new?”
And so I retold my story.
“Alright, now I understand what you meant by mad ramblings...
And the events that transpired at the property of Jack Honasson?”
Then I proceeded to tell him all about that creature too.
“Thank you for your… cooperation, if you will have any new information please contact us”
He said as he placed a card with some phone numbers on the table beside my bed.
As the men left the room the doctor went to my side again.
“I'm sorry if they were rude to you, but you must understand the situation that is happening in the country right now”
“I understand, I was in shock when I saw the news, can’t understand how you people feel right now”
Hearing that the doctor lightly smiled and answered.
“For better or worse I don’t have anyone to worry about like that”
With that our conversation came to an awkward end.
The doctor stayed with me for a few hours, before I finally regained control of my limbs.
Well, almost regained - I could move my arms just fine but for now walking will have to wait.
At least I was able to eat normal food and not some nutrient paste.
And so the day came to an end and I was left alone.
Or at least it seemed like that at the time.
