And so, soon after me and Dave left the hospital we were on our way to the police station.
The walk was quite lengthy, on account of the hospital being on the far side of the town.
The atmosphere around the town was even more gloomy than usual, and there were even fewer people on the streets than the last time I was around.
I knew better than ask Dave about it, I was sure that among the people who disappeared some of the residents could've been taken as well.
As I was thinking that, we were passing the road to Mr. Honasson’s house.
There were countless tire track marks going in that direction, along with a black SUV’s blocking the road there.
Noticing me staring in that direction - Dave spoke.
“Yeah, the first group of those suits arrived a few hours after me and Doctor got you to the hospital.
I’ve seen them taking those bones you showed me in some containers and then they drove off somewhere, after which the second group arrived and blocked access to the house.
I heard from the Doctor that they already talked with you about everything right?
Don’t know why they are sticking around then”
Overhearing him - the men in suits that were standing near the cars looked in our direction.
After noticing them looking at us I tried to avert eye contact, after which I looked at Dave - he was having the guiltiest and most nervous expression I could imagine.
We then quickly picked up the pace and got out of there.
The walk to the police station would be better described as a light jog at that point, at least because of that we arrived sooner than expected.
As we ran inside - the bells on the door were ringing like crazy, so the receptionist poked her head out to look.
“Oh, it's just you. How is Jack doing?”
Slightly out of breath, Dave answered.
“He's an adult man Cass - he will be fine, sure it will take him a month or so to get enough money to fix the house, but he has no problem staying with me”
Cassandra rolled her eyes.
“I meant his mental state you dingus, he built that house with his father - did he seem to be in any emotional distress?”
“Oh… yeah he didn’t look too good in that department - after those agents escorted him out with force his emotional range dropped to a stone face”
At that point they started arguing like a married couple so I decided to walk aside and sit on one of the benches and wait it out.
When they finally calmed down and noticed my absence, Dave walked over to me.
“Ok, sorry for keeping you waiting for too long, let’s go”
And so I stood up and followed Dave, we walked through a few corridors and flights of stairs before we reached what seemed to be our destination.
“We have repurposed one of our vacant rooms to accommodate you for the time being, the toilet is a corner from here so there’s that”
He then took out a pair of keys and opened the door, to reveal a mattress with a pillow and folded blanket.
Yeah, hello summer flashbacks.
After seeing my not-so-amused expression, Dave continued.
“I’m going to bring you food in the morning and evening, sadly until I get new orders - you are not to leave the station premises”
Hearing that I started to worry a little bit.
“Uh, are you sure that is even legal? I'm the victim here!”
“Sorry Jonas, I’m powerless here, it was either this or you would get sent god knows where, It was actually lucky for us that they requested for you to be kept closer to the location you were found”
At that moment I finally realized what it was about - those agents ordered him to do it.
“So I’m supposed to thank you for all this? Jee thanks for keeping me locked up for some shadow government bullshit Dave!”
I could see the anger and guilt on his face, he quickly shoved me - causing me to fall on the mattress, while he slammed the door and locked me in.
