Brantford, Canada, August 10, 1943

Dearest Precious,

Glad to hear you were feeling fine and are taking things easy. As you surmise, Monday was a long day and I could not find time to write. We had quite a thunderstorm last night and it rained heavily around ten o’clock. This morning we had an easy time, just sitting around in the rifle range taking turns shooting. This lasted from eight till noon. I am only a fair shot, scoring, 20 out of 25 in two attempts. This afternoon, it turned real warm, and as luck would have it, we had an eight mile march with small packs, gas respirator, steel helmet, and rifle. It was some experience, but I came through it O.K. even though I was soaking with sweat at the end. I got rid of my equipment quickly after and was able to have a shower before supper. Hot first, then lukewarm, and finally cold. It sure makes a terrific difference.

Glad to hear you were down to see the hospitalization people and that everything is O.K.. The rate is reasonable and well worth continuing.

Will know definitely about the weekend tomorrow. I am hoping awfully hard that we get it even though it is only a short one. I have a chance of a ride in with the fellow who sleeps next to me and I guess  I will take it though, he doesn’t think he will be driving back. The train doesn’t leave till nearly two on Saturday afternoon, where we will leave about 12:30 by car. Will let you know as soon as I find out. Well, sweetheart, I guess that’s all the news there is a present. I think I will go to see the ball game tonight and hit the hay early after having another shower. So good night dearest, say a little prayer that I will get there this weekend because I am longing so much to see you. Write every day if you can as it makes the days pass quicker thinking of you and waiting for your letters. So again good night darling.

Your loving Boy-Boy. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Reflection: Make your good shower great! Elevate your shower experience; hot first, then lukewarm, and finally cold. Be mindful of your shower ritual, add more Harry Hannah to your playlist. Try listening to “Alberta” by Harry Hannah during your shower, or “Orion and Alya” for a different vibe. I improved my good shower to great by turning on electric flickering candle lights and turning off the lights. It worked! Refresh and reset with a great shower before dinner and enjoy an amazing evening. You got this!

This is a true love story set in Toronto, Canada in the early 1940s during World War 2. My grandfather, Horgie, joined the Allies in the fight for The Four Freedoms after completing Basic Training., leaving my grandmother, Peachie, and his family and friends to move forward while he travelled overseas with the Canadian Armed Forces until January 1946.
