Dearest Sweetheart;

The luck of the Irish doesn’t seem to be working these days. We do not get a weekend this week. So I guess I won’t see you this Saturday after all. I was so disappointed when I heard the news that I could hardly make myself write to you. But the days will soon pass, dearest and then we will get two weekends in a row. Though I was counting so much on seeing you this week.

It certainly was hot here today and kept hot all through the day. We finished up with a three mile run. The temperature was nearly 90° so I am now drinking Cokes and trying to get the moisture back. Tonight is a late night so I will get a chance to wash nearly all my clothes as I have been perspiring freely the last two days, what with a route march yesterday and the cross country run today.

Glad to hear you are feeling fine these days and that you were having Mama over for a visit. It will do her a world of good to get out and talk with people. Now that the boys have gone away for a week she will be able to get a little rest.

Well precious there is not much news of interest to tell you so I will sign off. You will never know how much I will miss you this weekend. But there is a great day coming soon. And it sure will be wonderful when I get home just to see you again. Hope you are not too disappointed my lovely one though I was so sure I would see you this week. But until I do good night my darling. With all my love, and all my heart. Your Goo-Boy.   I LOVE YOU

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Reflection: Get your wash done when you can! Take advantage of the opportunity to take care of yourself, get your wash done, catch up on some letters and staying connected, and otherwise take time to look after your personal care needs. No one else will do this for you. Learn as you go and keep getting 1% better each. This is another one of those basic training life lessons that are needed in order for you to be empowered and mentally strong.

Sometimes that life lesson gets lost in other roles while aging, or through some kind of experience that really jolts us and at times we relearn how to be independent again. No worries. Always remember to start with taking care of yourself first, especially if you have kids. Establish a routine and develop your confidence in yourself by following through. It’s the little things. You will trust yourself more as your confidence grows. For me it started with the intention of making my experiences a minimum of 1% better each day. 100 days = 100% better.

This is a true love story set in Toronto, Canada in the early 1940s during World War 2. My grandfather, Horgie, joined the Allies in the fight for The Four Freedoms after completing Basic Training., leaving my grandmother, Peachie, and his family and friends to move forward while he travelled overseas with the Canadian Armed Forces until January 1946. This volume is the first in the series.
