Letter #430819
Brantford, Canada, August 19, 1943
Hello My Darling;
I received two letters from you this morning. One was postmarked Tuesday and the other Wednesday. It was quite a surprise, but it was doubly enjoyable. I was sorry to hear you didn’t sleep much Sunday night, but then I guess I wouldn’t have myself if I had a sixty mile drive. It was a very enjoyable Sunday afternoon.
Everything is going O.K. here. It has warmed up considerably and we are back to wearing our shirts again. We went over the obstacle course again today and I escaped with just one scratch, so I guess I’m improving. The boys next to us left this morning, but they made only a little noise. I awoke just twice, which isn’t bad, considering what they had threatened. We finally won the pennant for the best hut. It would seem as if we had to wait until several of the platoons left before we could win it. But the boys are determined to continue now that they started.
Well precious. I guess that’s all the news there is. Glad to hear that you are fine and are going to see the doctor. It is time for another check. Well sweetheart, it won’t be long now, just another day and a half. I have managed to change my date with dentist till Monday. So unless they give me a needle, everything will be fine. So until Saturday darling when I’ll make a personal appearance. Good night.
Your Goo-Boy

Reflection: Aim for improvement, not perfection. Finished the obstacle course with scratches last time? Work hard at improving just 1% per day by learning from your mistakes and get that down to one scratch next time over the obstacle course. No scratches getting through the course? Good, let’s improve by 15 seconds. And keep going, keep striving for improvement. Don’t worry about crossing all the obstacles of life at once. Gradual improvement is long lasting. Lessons need to be learned and insight needs to be earned to be successful at navigating life. Aim to be 1% better each day! 100 days = 100% better.
