Letter #430901
Brantford, Canada, September 1, 1943
Dearest Peach Pie;
Received your letter this morning, and it gave me a thrill as it always does to know you were thinking of me. Glad to hear you were fine and are visiting the doctor. Hope you haven’t gained too much weight. He might put you on a diet. It must’ve been funny about the radio. That tube lit up when it was tested. Maybe there was a loose wire in it.
Well, the big dance last night was a huge success it seems. We got very little sleep as the boys kept coming in until 2 o’clock in the morning. Practically everybody had a bottle. They sat around the hut drinking until about 9:30 PM and then they left for the dance. Some of them were in bad shape this morning but we had a twelve mile route march today. That sweated it out of them. We went past the Coca-Cola plant here and halted on their lawn. The Lieutenant went into the office and talked them into giving us three cases of Cokes. We had just finished marching about five miles and the Coca-Cola was ice cold. It sure tasted good. Everybody finished in good style. I didn’t get any blisters this time.
We don’t get a leave this weekend but I think we get one our first week at Borden. But that is still a long time to wait until I see my precious girl. By then I guess the new dress will be finished and you’ll be more beautiful than ever if such a thing is possible.
Well darling I will say good night for now. Write and tell me about your visit to the doctor and to see Mama. Take care of yourself and don’t too much work. I would like to be there Thursday when Eugene and Laura there but maybe I will see them when I come in next week.
Good night my sweetheart. Your Goo-Boy.
P.S. You are always in my thoughts and dreams I love and long to be with you every minute. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Reflection: Life is a dance and I gotta show up to some of them at some point. Find people that like your music, your fashion, your food, your mood, etc. This is your tribe. Be with your tribe and keep showing up for the dance in life! Music is good for balancing things in my brain, slowing down, stirring memories and insights. Dance and music are universal means to joy. This is important to remember for later in 1944. Keep an outfit on standby and say yes to the next time you are invited out for live music. If you have a good time, make it a habit.
