Letter #430902
Brantford, Canada, September 2, 1943
Dearest Sweetheart;
Received the news of your visit to the doctor this morning, and was glad to hear that everything is progressing nicely. I agree with the doctor, it certainly does agree with you as you grow more beautiful every time I see you. Just take care of yourself and go easy on the housework. I am glad to hear you enjoyed your visit to Mama’s and that you enjoyed the show. It must’ve been uncomfortable for you though as those seats are no bargain.
Last night lights out wasn’t until 11 o’clock and as a terrific thunderstorm arrived about 8 o’clock most of the boys stayed in the hut. We gather together three guitars, two mouth organs, a violin, and a fellow who plays two spoons by banging them together between his knee and hand. It was quite a jam session, and to top it. We discovered that one of our corporals is quite a tap dancer. So we prevailed upon him to favour us with a couple of numbers. He is really good, and with all the instruments and all the fellows singing it was really terrific.
We had another medical examination today, so I guess we are moving out next week. I am still OK so I guess the training isn’t doing me any harm. It turned cool after the storm last night, but warmed up considerably by noon. We are throwing a stag party downtown tomorrow night. It is a sort of farewell party. We are inviting all the N.C.O.s and our Lieutenant. Everybody contributed a dollar each so we gathered together between $60 and $70. It should be quite an affair. We have rented the Ukrainian hall in Branford. The lieutenant has gotten us a late pass until three in the morning.
Well darling that’s all the news for now. I won’t see you for a couple weeks but I will be thinking of you constantly.
Good night precious.
Your ever loving guy.
P.S. I love you dearest and the last thing I do every night before going to sleep is to close my eyes and visit with you. It is wonderful, but never as nice when I really am with you.
