As I pushed open the rusted iron door, the temple's walls were adorned with moss-covered carvings depicting scenes from a forgotten past. The air was thick with humidity, and the stone beneath my feet was slippery with algae.
Cautiously, I made my way towards a heavy wooden door at the front of the temple.
I gazed at the sky, the clouds hiding the full moon, and thought about my escape from my parents and my newfound freedom. However, I couldn't shake my doubts. "What am I going to do next?" My eyes cast downward, "though I knew that it was the best option to escape rather than be a slave..bu..".
I quickly slapped my cheeks in an attempt to regain focus, "Well, whatever it is, we can think about it later. First, let's get into the temple; the biting cold is relentless out here." Suddenly, an uncontrollable "Ahh...choo!" escaped me as I began to shiver
I hurried to the door and opened it. With a groan, the ancient hinges creaked as I pushed the door open. Darkness surrounded me, sending shivers down my spine. Suddenly, the bluebird mark on my right palm flashed with an otherworldly blue light. "What is happening now?" I asked myself.
A powerful beam of light pierced the temple, sending bits flying through the air like blue fireflies, casting an eerie glow on the disintegrating structures. There were various writings on the cracked walls that I couldn't understand.
"I should not let my guard down," I said, warily moving closer inside the shrine.
After a while, I found myself in front of a huge door and felt a familiar aura from it. I slowly opened the door. In the center of the room, an open roof revealed a towering tree that reached beyond the ceiling. The fact that I had missed the tree when I was outside the temple seemed strange to me.
The rain wasn't stopping, so I found cover under a stone slab next to the tree. As the rain suddenly stopped, the tree began to glow bright blue, matching the mark's color on my hand.
I stepped closer, curious. I gasped as my fingers touched its bark, and lightning shot through me. "what?!" I was shocked as my palm absorbed the bright blue light from the tree, repelling me to the side of the room.
In an instant, the tree disintegrated into dust before my eyes, engulfed in a cascade of blue light shimmering around my hand. I was completely clueless. "What happened?" I exclaimed as I gazed at my hand.
Suddenly, my hand started to absorb a strange bright energy, and I immediately recognized the bright glow. “It... It is the same attack that I used against the slave seller group before!!!” Panic erupted in me. My hand started to glow very brightly.
"No, if the attack is launched, the whole temple will be destroyed.” While I was in confusion about what to do, I remembered the open roof and rushed below it. "This should do," I said as I raised my hand toward the sky.
A wave of power surged through me like a tidal wave, unleashing its force. My hand shot out, firing a beam of brilliant blue light toward the sky. The clouds parted, revealing a spectacle of breathtaking beauty—the glittering tapestry of the million stars and the bright full moon shining with an intensity that took my breath away.
But the beauty was short-lived. The temple began to tremble—a tremor that escalated from a gentle hum to a terrifying roar. I felt the ground shift beneath my feet, the air thick with the scent of dust and fear.
"Why is this happening to me!?" I shrieked in panic. suddenly something flashed in my mind: "People killing each other, huge explosions destroying everything in their reach, dead bodies are everywhere, a child crying because of hunger, people screaming for mercy..." It was just horrible.
"What... What was that?!" I exclaimed in horror, my eyes widening and sweat flowing down my face. "That wasn't even my memory. Is it because of this weird mark?" I asked, my eyes entirely concentrated on my hand.
Then, as suddenly as it had begun, the tremors subsided. I was left gasping, my heart pounding against my ribs, my mind reeling. Suddenly, while I was calming myself, a voice echoed behind me: “Who are you?”.
I spun around, my flashlight beam searching the darkness. There, swirling in the faint blue light, was a figure.
It wasn't human—more like a wisp of smoke, with eyes like burning embers and a lined mouth but no nose. Azure hair flowed from its head and connected to the mark on my right hand by a thin, shimmering thread.
“Who are you!!?” I echoed, my voice trembling…
