At that moment, the boss pulled out his personal phone and answered it in front of all the executives.
Han Chen was taken aback by the caller ID and quickly answered, ignoring the curious looks from his colleagues. "Hello?" he said, waiting for the other person on the line.
Yang Liu's voice came through, "Are you busy right now?"
Han Chen glanced around the meeting room and replied, "No, you can talk."
Yang Liu continued, "I just dropped Han Wei off at school and am heading home, but I’d like to know if I can pick him up at the end of the day?"
Han Chen paused, surprised at her change in demeanor. "Why is she acting so differently? I’ve only known her for three months and can count on one hand how many times we’ve met," he thought.
Snapping back to reality, he joked, "Sure, that works. I won’t be able to pick him up today anyway. If you don’t, he’ll have to stay at school until tomorrow."
Yang Liu smiled at his response, internally excited. "This man’s voice is nice even when he jokes. But what does he look like? The book only said he’s elegant, handsome, and rich."
She tucked her hair behind her ear and asked, "Are you coming for dinner tonight?"
Han Chen raised an eyebrow. "Probably not, I have a lot of work."
Yang Liu sighed. "Okay then, I won’t bother you anymore. Bye."
"Bye," he replied quickly before hanging up.
Beep beep.
After finishing the call, he checked a message from his butler.
BUTLER LING
"I’ve sent you a photo of the young master with Madame now."
Han Chen opened the photo and was surprised to see a woman in a red dress descending the stairs, holding hands with his son, both smiling. He was taken aback by the beauty of the moment and saved the image on his phone.
Meanwhile, Secretary Jian stood behind Han Chen with wide eyes, witnessing the scene unfold. The room was filled with silence as everyone exchanged glances, unsure who would speak first.
Suddenly, Han Chen lifted his glass of water and took a sip, then put his phone back in his pocket. "Project approved. Let’s move on to the next topic."
Everyone in the room exhaled, relieved, and resumed the meeting, each contemplating how to send a gift to please the boss's new wife.
Meanwhile, Yan Liu arrived home to find Butler Ling waiting for her with a smile.
As she entered the living room, she noticed a gift on the table. "What’s this?" she asked.
Butler Ling replied, "This is a wedding gift from Secretary Jian and his wife."
Curious, Yang Liu approached the table and opened the package. Her excitement grew as she unwrapped it, having always loved receiving gifts.
Inside was a piece of jewelry accompanied by a card that read: "Wishing you happiness, from: Secretary Jian and wife. (P.S.: This is Mrs. Jian. Let’s arrange to have tea and go shopping sometime. My phone number is below. Kisses.)"
Butler Ling chuckled after reading the card. "Madame, Mrs. Jian has always been humorous, but she’s a good person. Please don’t misunderstand."
Yang Liu looked at the message and then back at her butler, smiling. "I won’t misunderstand. I already like her; she seems easygoing. We definitely need to meet."
Feeling happy, she climbed the stairs with her gift. Little did she know, by the end of the day, fifty more gifts, even more impressive than this one, would arrive at her house.
