A couple years later my younger sister Stheno was born. Luckily her genes got the memo and made her immortal. This means that she could freely go to school with me and Euryale.
One day we were all walking to school together. Euryale has already graduated but is coming back as a gym teacher. I´m a Senior, and Stheno is a freshman. This is the only year we will all be going to school together, and we are taking full advantage of it. Today is what us mortals call Valentine's day. And somehow everyone gets that. I slam my locker shut as a salty aroma makes its way into my nose. I turn and see Posiden leaning on the locker next to me, rose in hand. He leans against the locker next to me and winks, fixing his hair with the other hand
My eyes fall on the rose then back to him, realization setting in. My eyes widen ever so slightly as a sheepish grin tugs at his lips. My face flushes red from embarrassment, as I look around and see a crowd of people gather around us.
¨I take that reaction as a yes then?¨Posiden says confidently, taking a step closer to me. Sweat drips down my face as I take a step back. Then another. Then another. I feel my back bang against the locker door, as Posiden steps closer.
¨N-No thank you.¨ I stutter out. ¨I-I´m not interested.¨ I push Poseidon back from me, trying to create more space between us, as I try to retract even more. His smirk seems to wipe off his face as he pins one of my shoulders against the locker.
¨It's not a good idea to reject me you know…¨ He whispers in my ear. I flinch and try to retract even more, only to be stopped by the hard metal locker behind me.¨I know you wanna-¨
¨HEY! What do you think you're doing to my sister?¨ Poseidon's head whirles back in surprise, as his grip on my shoulder loosens. I take the opportunity to quickly wack it away, running towards my two sisters. Euryale is glaring at Poseidon and continues to shout at him. She quickly pushes me behind her, shielding me with her body. I glance over at Stheno and notice her panicked expression. This clearly isn't how I expected today to go.
Of course Posiden wasn't punished, he is a part of what we call the big three. The big three are the 3 most powerful Gods at our school. Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon. Poseidon is the youngest, so he's currently a Sophomore. Hades is a high school dropout, last I heard he ran away to rule the underworld with Persephone. Now that´s a romance I never expected to happen. If he was in high school though he would be a Junior. Zeus is actually gonna grow up to be the ruler of mount olympus, which you would never expect. Although he is very outgoing, I don't think he would make a very good king. He is pretty rude and seems to be dating a new girl every day. Infact I'm surprised I haven't seen him yet.
I turn the corner and walk over to studies of the world below. That's my favorite class because it´s studying humans, who are also mortals. Although they have very different lives from me. When I was a freshman I didn't even know why we studied them, but now I understand that it's because we will rule over them one day. Well atleast the immortals will. My teachers always tell me that I must find a goddess to devote my life to, to be their servant, or apprentice. I guess I still can't escape the future for us mortals.
I take a seat near the back of the room, but not the VERY back. That´s reserved for Zeus and whatever girlfriend he has this week. Soon enough I hear his loud voice walking in. I look over and see his arm around Hera.
Hera is the goddess of marriage, so I don't know what she is doing around him. We have occasionally talked but I don't think she likes me much. She is one of the popular girls, being Poseidon's sister. That's right, sister. I know that probably sounds weird to you humans, but it's completely normal for us gods/goddesses to date our siblings. In fact my parents are siblings.
Zeus and Hera take a seat in the back, and I can hear them start to make out. GROSS! I shudder, I just don't understand why everything needs to be wrapped around romance. I find it disgusting. From what people have described, I haven't had a crush, like ever.
¨Eew! Get a room!¨ I hear, as someone takes a seat beside me. I turn and see that it's Athena. Athena and I weren't exactly close the past couple of years, but it's not like we did not like each other. But since she is the only familiar face in this class, we decided to be friends. I know it sounds lame, but she is my only friend besides my sisters.
We have grown especially close over the past couple of months, and I tutor her in a couple of subjects. I look over at her, but she seems kinda nervous.
¨I heard you rejected Poseidon.¨ She says, leaning in a bit closer. She seems a bit on edge as I nod.
¨Yeah, I just didn't like him like that.¨ I responded, and Athena almost seemed…mad?
¨Are you crazy?!? You're already a huge underdog at this school, being the only mortal and all. You can't just reject one of the big three! You could get in serious trouble. Like, I know it's unfair and a huge power imbalance, but Posiden is super powerful, and can have your head on a stick in a matter of seconds!¨ Athena whisper-shouts. I hadn't thought of that but she did have a good point.
