I´m about to respond but cut myself off when I see Posiden and his best friend Perseus walk in. Perseus glares at me, but Posiden looks at me and winks. I flinch a bit and quickly look away. They take a seat at the table across from us, and I can feel Poseidon's gaze lingering on me the entire time…
I can barely focus in class, and Athena takes notice of that. After class she lets me copy off her notes, and we get talking. She was talking about how once she graduates she will have a temple in her honor. Athena is the goddess of wisdom, war, and craft, so it makes sense. I tell her how after I graduate I’ll have to find someone to devote my life to, and be there servant forever.
I’m honestly kinda nervous. What if I don't get a good ruler? Me and Athena keep talking, and soon the topics go to graduation. While Athena is excited, I’m nervous. I don’t even know if it's worth graduating, the world is so cruel past that point. The school is a shield from the real world, even though it has its flaws.
“We talking about graduation?” I hear. It’s a higher-pitched voice, which lets me know that its owner is Aphrodite. Aphrodite is the second most popular girl in school, only behind Hera. She is the goddess of Love and beauty, so it makes sense. But surprisingly, she is actually nice to everyone, including me.
Even one look into her eyes and you have a crush on her, she is stunningly beautiful. Yet she decides to stay single. ‘I don’t need any man to determine my life.’ She claims. “God I have so many people asking me out today it’s annoying.” She remarks.
I roll my eyes and tense up a bit, thinking back to Poseidon. “Tell me about it.” *I respond, kinda rudely. Although Poseiden had asked me out, after I rejected him I had about 5 boys come up to me and ask me out.
“OMG I heard about the Poseidon thing. I’m so sorry that happened. He is so full of himself.” Aphrodite adds. I smile a bit. That is the first time someone actually sympathized with me on it.
“Thank you.” I say positively. And I mean it, I didn’t realize that I needed to hear that. We continue talking about random topics, and I appreciate all of Aphrodite and Athena's sympathy.
The rest of the months go by in a flash, and it feels that in a blink of an eye, graduation is upon us. I stand on the podium, with a beautiful dress made of clouds on me. I smile and take my graduation pass, as the classmates I have seen for years cheer.
I walk around, congratulating some of my classmates. As I’m about to leave I feel a tap on my shoulder. I turn around and see Athena standing behind me, smiling.
¨So…you know how I´m getting my own temple?¨ She asks, clearly holding back the excitement in her tone. I nod slowly, very confused about the whole ordeal. ¨And you know how you need to find a ruler to serve?!¨ I nod once again, still very confused. ¨Well I was thinking…would you like to serve me in my temple?!!¨
My eyes widen in shock and my jaw hits the floor. I look around to see if this is a prank but am only met by jealous and hateful glances from the students who overheard. Poseidon looks especially mad. ¨A-Are you serious?¨ I managed to sputter out. My heart is racing in my chest as Athena nods excitedly.
¨Yes! Absolutely!!! Thank you so much!!!!! This is amazing.¨ I pull Athena in for a tight hug. This really means the world to me. Not only do I know who I´m gonna serve for the rest of eternity, but it's also my best friend!
Stheno and Euryale both run up and hug me tightly, congratulating me. I think Iḿ excited for this new chapter in my life.
Before I was able to join Athena's temple, I had to sign a contract. This contract wasn't for like one or two years, it was for the rest of my life. The rules were pretty straightforward. 1) I had to devote my entire life's purpose to Athena. 2) I couldn't do anything in the temple without Athena´s permission, even though I was living in the castle. And number 3, the most important one, is to stay a virgin. Breaking any of these rules was punishable by death.
Now this may sound strict, but this is a pretty chill contract compared to others. I heard that Poesidons apprentice couldn't speak to anyone but him. God I hate that seaweed brain.
I was kinda nervous to be honest, but after about 5 years I got used to it. One day I was cleaning in the temple when Athena came up to me. ¨Why don´t you take the rest of the day off, you have already done so much.¨ She says kindly, looking at me sympathetically. I know she already feels guilty about giving me a ton of work, but it isn't her fault.
¨Thank you, my lady.¨ I beam back, bowing down my head before walking to put the duster away. I decided that I was gonna go down to the beach and watch the waves. Beaches calm me down, even though Poseidon is the ruler of the sea.
I pack a bag and get ready to go. I got a pair of sunglasses, a beach towel, and sunscreen. Because I´m mortal skin cancer does still exist to me, and you can never be too careful. I look around at the rest of the things on my table. There is a half-eaten apple, a book, some cleaners, and a knife.
I look down at the knife for a little, before deciding to place it in my pocket, just in case. I smile to myself, throwing the bag over my shoulder. Today is gonna be a good day!
I throw on some sandals and make my way to the beach. Once the sea is close enough, I lay down my towel and close my eyes, just listening to the sounds of the waves. Before I know it I fall asleep.
I wake up, my eyes fluttering open. I look up and see a beautiful starry sky. Smiling and sitting up and admiring the sea, I wish I could live in that peaceful moment forever.
I suddenly get an uneasy feeling. A REALLY uneasy feeling. I stand up quickly, looking around but only seeing the movements of the waves. My body wants to relax but my brain won't let it. The feeling is still there. Like a whole apple has dropped into my stomach and is releasing ants to crawl up my throat. Something is very wrong.
I scramble to pick up my towel and other supplies, quickly throwing it into my bag before sprinting out of the beach. My feet start to form blisters from the running, but I dont stop. I dont stop until Athena's temple comes into view. I run into the building, quickly shutting the doors behind me and locking them. I close my eyes and let out a sigh of relief, my body falling to the floor from exhaustion.
¨Hello there.¨ I hear from in front of me. My head shoots up and I immediately recognize the voice's owner. Poseidon.
I met his watercolor eyes. Panic shoots through me, like a tree's roots are growing in my bones. I freeze in my place. ¨Poseidon, you're not allowed to be here.¨ I say in a commanding tone, trying to swallow down my nerves. I know that this isn't good.
