The idea of unity is an impossible task. Even a nation struggles with that. Even if they share the same language, belief, and life style, there is always an agenda and goals they wish to fulfill, and those who wish for their dreams to come true would gather as many followers as they can and would later face competitors. Their is a chance where they could play a fair game, but those who desperately want to win will sabotage, espionage, spread false rumors while the other side will decide to do the same. And this is where the split happen, where one side wins to benefit themselves while the others would either join them or resent them, forming a division where they spat each other with words that would later resort to physical violence. If this continues to be tolerated, more divisions will be split that will be very difficult to unify the people, worse still, this gives an opening to foreign affairs where they set their position within a nation they're not familiar with.
