Standing there waiting, Leonard came out of his office heading towards the Executive Elevator.
"Your man is coming"she whispered and I nudge her shoulder with mine to let her keep quiet.
He acknowledged us with a nod and was about to enter the elevator when Cas stopped him.What was she planning to do? Cas you better comport yourself.
"Have you heard?Your man is going to represent us in IHC." she said.
'Your man?'what was that one too? What was she implying?
"Yeah I heard. Congratulations Christopher"He said and my heart skipped a beat when my name rolled off his lips.
"Thanks" I said.
He nodded and was on his way when Cas signaled me to stop him.
"What should I do?"I whispered.
"I don't know,call him"she whispered back.
"We are having a party in my house to celebrate.Would you like to come?You are invited." I quickly said and he stopped and turned to face me.
"Good one Chris"she praised and luckily he didn't hear but he knew she said something.
"That sounds fun but I will be busy so I won't be able to show up. Sorry"he said and my world crumbled into pieces.
"No problem,next time then"I said as I forced a smile.Cas also looked sad and I could see he felt guilty. An awkward silence reigned for some seconds and he broke it.
"Okay see you later,have fun"he said, turned and walked away. That was when I felt downcast. Cas and I were about to enter our own elevator when he stopped in his tracks and turned and walked to us again. Did he already change his mind?
"How about tomorrow?there is a new restaurant that has been officially opened. I would like the two of to join me. The owner of the restaurant is my friend so he asked me to come. "he narrated and I felt elated at once.
"It will be my treat.A gift for your achievement"he continued and I smiled,this time it was genuine.
"Uhm sorry,but I wouldn't be able to show up,I have to visit my parents. But don't worry,you and Chris can go alone right?" she suggested which made my heart blossom. Way to go matchmaker.
"Okay then,it's a date,I will text you the time and address tomorrow"he said,I nodded and this time he left.
"It's a date,it's a date"She recited and started to tease me as we entered the elevator.
"Finally some improvement huh,things are really coming your way. "she said and I smiled.
" 'Your man',what was that one too?"I asked curiously.
"I had to just do it for it to look like you guys were close"she explained and I nodded.
"You see what I did there? Aren't I a genius?"She asked and I nodded.
"Of course you are. If you weren't,you wouldn't have become a surgeon"I explained and she held her head high in pride.
The elevator came to a halt as we had gotten to our destination. Just as we were about to get out of it,I bumped into Branson.
"Sorry"he apologized.
"No problem,I bumped into you first "I said jokingly and we both giggled when Cas cleared her throat just to get our attention. Wait was she jealous? Oh hell no. Did I look like someone who would flirt with his best friend's boyfriend?
"Oh Carissa,I didn't notice you . Are you guys leaving?How about I give you a ride?" He asked and I looked at her waiting for her to answer. I didn't want to say I had brought my car and that she was coming with me when she didn't want to or say she could go with him for it to look like she was abandoning me when she saw her boyfriend.And I know how she wanted to spend every single moment with him.
"Don't worry,he brought his car and we are going to celebrate at his house. Would you like to join?"She asked.
"Why not? Let's go then"he said and we all walked to the parking lot and with Cas and me in my car and Branson in his,we headed to my house.
"Wow, look at how you killed two birds with one stone"I praised and she smirked.
"I know right"She exclaimed.
After about ten minutes,we got to my house,with me leading Branson,I entered the garage and he followed suit.We packed the car and the three of us all came out. I opened the door and made my presence known to grandpa.
"Grandpa,I'm home"
"In the kitchen dear,be with you in a couple minutes"he said. I gestured for our new guest slash Cas's boyfriend to sit down on the couch in the living room as I went to the fridge to take some tequila for him. I was about to give it to me when Cas snatched it from my hand and gave it to him. Wow ,someone was really possessive.
"Thank you"Branson said and Cas smiled from ear to ear. I mentally laughed at how ridiculous she was being right now.
"My pleasure"she responded in a flirtatious tone.
"Surprise"I turned when I heard grandpa's voice and was astonished.He was holding a white cake with one lit candle on it. I was confused as to what the occasion was,today wasn't my birthday.
"Aww grandpa,why this? Today isn't my birthday"I said.
"I told him about IHC"Cas confessed.
"When will you stop telling people what I'm supposed to tell them?"I said as I shook my head.
"I couldn't help it sorry"she used that same excuse again and I just let it slid.
"You chatterbox"I named and she smiled realizing I wasn't upset with her.
"Now now,let's celebrate by eating this cake,I can't wait...." grandpa paused as he starred at Branson.
"You look familiar but I can't remember your name"he said as he tried to recall his name.
"Is it Brian?"He asked and the three of us shook our head.
"I'm Branson sir" he declared and grandpa finally remembered.
"How come you're the only one who joined us?"grandpa asked searching around the room to check if there was someone else in the room.
"I'm her boyfriend sir"he declared and we all gaped in shock. Cas was dumbfounded as she stood there motionless. He held her hand for her to come back to her senses and she snapped out of her shock.
"Wow then no need to call me 'sir',just call me grandpa"grandpa suggested and he nodded.
"Wow,congrats for making your relationship official. Now we have two reasons to celebrate"I said and we all laughed except Cas who was still surprised and was still adjusting her composure.
"Cas why don't you follow me to the kitchen for some plates for the cake"I suggested and she nodded as she followed me quietly.Once we got there,I placed my hand on her shoulder to calm her down.
"Calm down,pull yourself together.You should be happy and vibrant not the opposite when he just made it official that you're his girlfriend"I said.
"I know and I'm overjoyed right now,I didn't expect him to do that so early.After all,we've only dated for a year now. I'm just so happy he took the initiative to do so"she said as she started tearing up and I quickly hugged her as I caressed her back with my palm in order to calm her down.When it came to things like this, we were both vulnerable and very dramatic.
After awhile,she calmed down,whipped her tears and then washed her face near the sink which made her now look refreshed. We took four plates and glass cups and headed to where the other party was.
"What took you guys so long there?Grandpa asked when he saw us.
"I was looking for the cake knife but it seemed you brought it with you"I lied.
"Now make your wish dear which we all know what it is. For you to bring back the championship"he said and we laughed.
Silently saying a prayer,I blew the candle and they all clapped. Then grandpa started to cut the cake.
"Hmm grandpa it is very delicious.You've outdone yourself again"Cas complimented. The cake was really delicious indeed which I was already used to since he was a great cook.
"How does it taste Branson?"grandpa asked him.
"It really is amazing"he said with stars in his eyes.
" Since you love it,I will cut some for you to send home."grandpa said and he nodded in gratitude.After some more chatting,eating and drinking,it was late and Branson had to go. Grandpa fulfilled his promise and packaged some of the cake for him. This time Cas had to go with him.
"Good night Chris"she said.
"Good night Cas,have fun you two and come and tell me every single detail you hear me?"I said and she seriously nodded. We kissed each other on the cheeks and then,the two of them got out. I waved Branson good bye and he muttered a 'thank you'and I nodded. I closed the door once their car left my sight and then went to sit by grandpa as we watched television together.
