"Mak,are you having fun?"Lucy asked her best friend as she moved her body vigorously.
"Yes I am!"Mak yelled to her best friend since the music was very loud.
"Great,dance with me more"Lucy requested afraid her best friend would soon stop. To keep her friend captive,she held her hand as they twirled around in the crowd. The girls squealed as they turned around enjoying themselves.
To Mak,this was a whole new feeling she didn't want to stop experiencing . She wished her everyday could go on like this. For once,she didn't feel like studying which was strange but somehow she felt relaxed. For some strange reason too,she didn't feel guilty that she wasn't learning and didn't feel that time was slipping away.
To Lucy,this wasn't something new to her as she went to parties almost everyday. But she really felt that she was really having fun this time and she knew it was because of the presence of her best friend. With Mak,she didn't have to worry about who was watching and who wasn't watching her every move . She was always herself when with her best friend.
They danced and danced till Makayla realized she was getting tired and was losing her breath. She tapped her best friend who was still energetic from the very beginning. Mam wondered how she could do that. Maybe it was because she came to parties like this and her body was used to energetic moves.
"I'm exhausted,need to catch some air"She said her voice almost a whisper.
"What! the exhaust what?"she misinterpreted. She couldn't hear her well because of the loud music and Mak was too weak to shout. She then decided to just leave.
Squeezing herself in the crowd,she made her way out there and went to the corner were the drinks were. She took a glass of lemonade to drink but she quickly poured it back into the cup. That wasn't lemonade. Was it alcohol. Sheesh,it was so sour and bitter. Did Principal Beems know they were serving these? She now wondered where she was going to get at least water to drink because her throat was dry as the desert.
"Here,have some water" Justin who said as a bottle of water was in his stretched hand. Mak hadn't noticed when he got to her side.
She took the bottle of water from his hand and with a 'thank you',she gulped the whole thing in one go. Damn,she didn't know she that thirsty. She finished and placed the waste in a dust bin near the table at which the drinks were on.
"Do you need another bottle"Justin asked as he saw how she consumed the water. Her heart fluttered at this gesture of care.
"No I'm good"she answered as she blushed. Why was she blushing she guessed. It seem she was still shy about the kiss . They stood there in silence for a minute when Makayla decided to break the silence. This was her time to put what Lucy had thought her in practice. She was going to start a conversation.
"I have never been to a party like this before."she started.
"Yeah, I guessed that with how you danced back there"he said and she felt a little embarrassed that he had noticed. She had given him the impression of her being a naive girl.
"But it was entertaining to watch you as you were very cute and funny"he continued and Mak's face lit up. He was watching her the whole time? 'Cute' and'funny',no one had ever said those things to her and even if they did,she wouldn't believe them but with him,she decided to believe she was cute and funny. Her heart danced in joy with his compliment.
"It's still quite a wonder how you and Lucy became best friends when she is the exact opposite of you"he stated and Mak smiled. She knew that was true though. But,she and Lucy had something she couldn't fathom. They loved and accepted each other's personalities.She could only explain it like that.
"We have a lot of things in common if you must know"Mak replied.
"Really,give me some"Justin said as he looked at her with curious eyes.
"Well first of all we are both Leos,and were born on Wednesday in the same year.
Secondly,we both hate dogs.
Thirdly,we have the same taste in music which is Kpop and we love to sing as well.
We also love to eat Asian foods" she finished.She was really surprised at herself for talking to someone this long who wasn't her family or Lucy. Mak realized she had warmed up to Justin before she already knew it.
"Wow,you guys seem to be destined for each other but I love dogs .I even have two." he said and she nodded.
"Enough talking about me,let's talk about you"She said.Lucy had advised her that,in order to make Justin really like her,she had to make him talk about himself.This was discovery she had made dating boys. This made them feel they were interesting and liked to be listened to.
"Well I like to play basketball as you already know and love video games really much. "He narrated.
"I also like to listen to music when I'm alone but not the Kpop music"he said .
"And why is that? Kpop is really amazing"Mak said.
"Well it seems girly and also I don't like to listen to a language I don't understand"he criticized.
"It isn't just for girls. And there are ones that are fully english"Mak explained.
"Do you know Blackpink and BTS?"she asked.
"Yeah,my sister has a really scary obsession over them. I don't get the hype around them at all"he said in confusion.
"Oh you will,once you listen to their songs. Try it and you won't regret it"Mak assured.
"Okay I will,but only because of you"he reasoned and Mak blushed. She was sure her cheeks were now as red as a tomato. His words were really driving her insane. She was really happy with herself . She had managed to create a nice conversation between them and there was no awkwardness to that. It was as if they had been familiar with each for years.
"Should we go outside?The music is too loud and my ear drums are hurting. I also need some fresh air"he explained and Mak nodded.
The couple walked out of the ballroom and got to the parking lot. Other students were also there taking selfies amd doing their own things. There was a vacant bench near them and Justin gestured they go and sit on it.
Once they sat down,Justin's phone rang but he didn't care to answer it. It rang again and again and Mak wondered why he didn't answer,it could be something urgent.
"Won't you answer,it might be important since the person won't stop calling"Mak advised.
"It's just my brother,he's just trying to remind me of the errand he asked me to do when coming home"he explained.
"But still..."I urged.
He sighed and then answered the phone.
"What's it brother?"he asked in an aggrieved tone.
Mak couldn't hear what the person on the other side of the call was saying but she guessed it was what Justin expected since he rolled his eyes.
"Okay I won't forget, so stop calling me.I'm having fun and I don't want you to spoil it for me" he said and Mak was a little surprised at how he spoke. Wasn't he younger than his brother?
He said bye and then disconnected the call.
"See,I told you so.He had a fight with his girlfriend and had sent me to give her an apology letter since she had blocked him on all her social media accounts. "he narrated as shook his head.
"Who is older?" Mak asked.
"Him ofcourse,he is older than me two years. Why is there something wrong?"he asked as he noticed Mak wanted to say something.
"Yeah it's just how you spoke to him.It came out a little disrespectful"she explained.
"Oh you don't have to worry,that's how we are. He doesn't get offended at all. He allows me though and that's because we are very close."he explained.
"Okay then.sorry if I overstepped"Mak apologized as she looked guilty.
"No need to apologize.It is really good that you pointed it out. No wonder you are known as the teacher's pet"he said and we both laughed,clearing the air.
