‎"Let's go to my office to discuss it ."she suggested.

‎We headed to the elevator when Dina called me.

‎

‎"You have a surgery to do"she said.

‎

‎"Such a bummer. Why don't you finish then you come to me"Cas said and I nodded. She gave Dina a stern look then headed into the elevator.

‎

‎"Seems like I'm in trouble''Dina said as she shuddered.

‎

‎"I would start counting my days if I were you"I advised and she nodded.

‎

‎"Yeah right."she said and we both laughed.

‎

‎"Alright,back to business. What is the surgery about?Please give me the details. "I requested. We went back to her desk and she checked some papers and once she found what she was looking for,she took them and gave them to me.

‎

‎"Here you go"she said.

‎

‎I read the information on the file and knitted my eyebrows.

‎

‎"A nine year old girl has a brain tumor which needs to be removed but needs to be done carefully since she's in critical condition"I read.

‎

‎"Yeah that's it. Why ?Is there a problem?"She asked.

‎

‎"No why are you asking?"I asked her.

‎

‎"Your expression changed when reading it."she answered.So she noticed. A keen eyes she had.

‎

‎"It's just that this surgery would take three hours."I said.

‎

‎"Yeah do you have somewhere to go?A date maybe?"She asked and I blushed which she noticed.

‎

‎"Who is she?Oh wait you are...,who is the lucky man?"She asked as she leaned in closer to me,curiosity in her eyes.

‎

‎"I can't tell you and it's not a date. It's just a business meeting."I said which was partly true.

‎

‎"With the way,you blushed,I'm not sure it's only a business meeting."she said and I averted my gaze from hers.

‎

‎"Very well,if you won't tell me,it's fine.I will surely find out from Carissa,you know how that chatterbox likes to blurt things out anyhow without her being aware of it?"She said and I felt worried because what she said was true. Carissa could never control that mouth of hers. But she would never say anything like this to anyone.That I was confident she could keep to herself.

‎

‎"Yeah right.Have the parents given their consent for us to proceed the surgery?"I asked her changing the topic.

‎

‎"No,they are waiting for you for a better explanation."she answered. Great, now I had to go and give them a detailed information before they decided and they mostly took an hour to make a decision. I looked at my watch and did the maths. If everything went well,I would be done by exactly seven p.m and that wasn't enough for me to go home and make preparations but I would try. I had to make this date or meeting or whatever it is work.

‎"Which room are they in?"I asked.

‎

‎"Room fifty six."she answered and I nodded and then headed straight there.

‎

‎I opened the door and entered and saw a girl lying there with her parents around her happily chatting.

‎

‎"Yes and I will prepare your favorite dish."the mom said.

‎

‎"And what about the amusement park?Will you let me go there every Saturday?"the little girl knowing her parents would comply to her request since she was on a sick bed. This was a trick I was never tired of seeing.

‎

‎"How about twice a month?"the father negotiated.

‎

‎"Deal" she said.

‎

‎"And what about a new phone. I want the latest edition of iPhone."she requested.Wow,we had gotten there already?Little girl wanted to take a mile when they had given her an inch.

‎

‎"Don't dare me Jesse"her father warned.

‎

‎"Okay how about just a new phone?"she negotiated.

‎

‎"You've gotten to your limit dear."the mother announced and the little girl bit her lower lip in disappointment.

‎

‎*clearing of throat.*

‎

‎I finally made my presence known to them by clearing my throat.

‎

‎"You must be Dr.Light.Her doctor."The father said as he stood up from his seat and walked to me and stretched his arm for a handshake which I took.

‎

‎"Yes sir,I'm the one who would be performing your daughter,Jesse's surgery."I answered as I retracted my hand from his.

‎

‎"Hello Jesse,how are you doing today?"I asked as I walked closer to her.

‎

‎"I'm doing well.Just a sting in my head."she answered.

‎

‎"That's because you have a brain tumor."I said.

‎

‎"Is that serious?Am I going to die?"she asked all of her sudden and her parents expression changed as they looked at me,begging to tell their daughter she wasn't going to die.

‎

‎"Of course not,this is infact a very easy thing for me to do. I just have to open your head and remove it out and you would be free forever.Easy peasy."I explained and she laughed,lightening up the atmosphere at once.

‎

‎"You are very funny Dr.Light. Are you a star or a model?"She asked which I knew why.

‎

‎"No I'm just a surgeon why do u asked?"I deliberately asked her.

‎

‎"Because you are very handsome."she complimented.

‎

‎"Thank you.Are you also a fairy?"I asked which made her giggle.

‎

‎"No why?"she asked.

‎

‎"Because you are so cute I want to hug and squish you."I answered and tickle her which made her burst into laughter.

‎

‎"I have to discuss something with your parents outside okay,we won't be long."I said to her after she had calmed down. I nodded to her parents as I headed outside and they followed.

‎

‎"Her condition is in dire state so we have to do the surgery as soon as possible."I said which was partly true.

‎

‎"What are the outcomes?"The man asked.

‎

‎"If all goes well,she would be fine. "I answered.

‎

‎"And what if it doesn't?" his wife asked.

‎

‎"The tumor is located near a brain nerve in her brain and if not unfortunate,and the tumor is removed,she may get neuroparalysis. "I answered.

‎

‎"And what is that?"The man asked looking worried.

‎

‎"The damage of a brain nerve. She wouldn't be able to talk."I finished and the wife burst into tears and her husband consoled her.

‎

‎"What if we don't have the surgery?"he asked.

‎

‎"I'm afraid that would be dangerous for her. She may lose all her nerve cells in the brain leading to not only her being mute but become totally paralyzed.She will suffer from cerebrovascular accident. What you people say stroke.I explained and they looked at me as if they had seen a ghost.

‎

‎"But I can assure you.The rate at which she would be perfectly fine is seventy five percent and I don't know if the woman at the desk told you,but I'm one of the best surgeons in the hospital."I said . Not me bragging here. I had to if they had to make a decision quickly and not ruin my date. 

‎

‎"Yeah she did say we were lucky to have you available."the man said.

‎

‎ The wife looked at her husband and nodded.

‎

‎"We will let you perform the surgery. And please save our daughter. She's the only one we got."he said and I nodded.

‎

‎"I will do my best.I will go for the consenting forms so you can go and speak to her now for the surgery would start ."I said and they nodded.The woman whipped her tears before they entered the room.I checked my watch and realized only thirty minutes had passed. Yes!,I still had time.I ran to Dina's desk to get the consenting forms.

‎

‎"I need the consenting forms."I said as I got to her.

‎

‎"That fast,how did you persuade them that quickly?"she asked surprised.

‎

‎"I have my ways."I answered."Yes you do, surgery god."she teased and handed me the forms.

‎

‎"Please order the nurses to prepare for the surgery."I said to her.

‎

‎"Right away."she said and I nodded.I then left back to the family of three. I opened the door and saw them praying.After a few minutes, they were done and they saw me.

‎

‎"Dr.Light,I heard you are going to do the surgery for me now ?"Jesse asked and I nodded.

‎

‎"Here are the consenting forms please sign here and let her sign here too."I said indicating where they should sign.

‎

‎"Pen please."he requested and I removed one from my pocket and gave it to him.Once they were done,they handed the papers to me and soon,the nurses entered to take Jesse to the surgery room arranged for her.

‎

‎"Don't worry,everything will be fine."I assured them.

‎

‎"We trust you doctor."the wife said.

‎

‎"As you should"I said and then,I left them to go and change for the surgery.

‎

‎An hour and half had passed as I had finally opened Jesse's head and had gotten a view of the tumor.

‎

‎"Wow the tumor is quite huge. Would we be able to remove it without any dangers? " Dr.Conner,Cas's assistant asked with worry . I could do it alone but I needed help if I wanted to finish earlier than scheduled and make it to my date on time and he was the only person available so I had to take him like that even though I disliked him. Desperate matters called for desperate measures.

‎

‎"It would be hard but not impossible.Now help remove this tumor."I ordered.

‎

‎With diligence and skill,we successfully removed the tumor and I checked the nerves if they were still intact after the removal and fortunately they were. I let out a sigh of relief through the nose mask and announced.

‎

‎"We successfully removed it and there are no side effects "I said and everyone relaxed.

‎

‎"That's great to hear.You did it again Dr. Light.It's really inspiring,working with you."he praised as he starred at me with those eyes again. This was the first time he ever praised me and I couldn't sense any malice in his tone too. Did he.... I didn't want to get ahead of myself. Maybe he started to admire me since he has been working with me for some time now.

‎

‎"Would you like to close Little Jesse up?" I asked and he nodded so I gave him way as he took charge.

‎

‎Another hour passed and the surgery was a success and finally over.

‎

‎"Great job everyone. The surgery is over. Thank you for your cooperation."I said and they all nodded including Mr.Connor.

‎

‎No sooner had I gotten out of the surgery room than two people pounced on me. It was Jesse's parents.

‎

‎"How did it go?"The wife quickly asked.

‎

‎"Everything went on smoothly as expected. You don't have to worry,your daughter is finally safe and is now resting.She would wake up a couple hours later."I said and their faces shone with happiness. The wife quickly hugged me as she burst into tears.I was surprised with her sudden action but understood her.

‎

‎"Thank you,thank you so much.God bless you."she said.

‎

‎"Thank you doctor,you saved our girl."he said as tears threatened to fall but he was a man.

‎

‎"I was happy to help.Now you guys do your parts and buy the things she asked for."I reminded and we all laughed.

‎

‎"We will.thank you once again."the man said and I nodded.

‎

‎"I will take my leave then."I said and they nodded as I left to my office and packed my things to go home.

‎

‎I now had thirty minutes more before it was seven. I called Cas asking where she was and she told me she was at my place so getting out of the elevator,I hurried to the parking lot.

‎

‎"Leaving already?"I heard Dina ask.

‎

‎"Yes see you tomorrow,bye."I said not stopping and continued running . I got to the parking lot,entered my car and headed straight home. 

‎

‎I drove very fast but didn't dare to exceed the speed limit.After about fifteen minutes,I got home parked the car in the garage and entered the house I checked the time and it was seven p.m. Great I was officially late for my date night.
