Skylar Caldwell
After we got back to our rooms, I watched Michael walk into his room. I could tell after today’s events, that he was feeling left out. I personally still didn’t know what to make of this entire situation myself. Me, Rebecca, Levi, Calvin and Dylan were all chosen to be summoned to some strange world as heroes? That’s the plot of so many different stories on the internet and on TV. It doesn’t feel real, and yet, here we are.
After a couple of minutes, I decided to go and talk to Rebecca. I noticed how she got slightly jealous when Princess Nymeria asked Michael to sit next to her. She’s had feelings for him for a while, but still hasn’t tried to get closer to him. And with this whole situation sprung on us out of nowhere, I was curious as to how she might approach the situation. She could definitely help Michael realize that he’s wanted and won’t be left out.
I walked up to her door, and softly knocked on it.
After a few seconds, I heard her ask “Who’s there?”
“Becca, it’s Skylar. May I come in?” I asked.
I heard what sounded like a relieved sigh, followed by footsteps. When she opened the door, she gave me a questioning look.
“Hey Sky. We should be trying to get some sleep. Is something the matter?” She asked with a concerned look.
“I’m just worried about Michael,” I started to say. “I know he feels extremely left out right now with everything happening. And I know you’re worried about him too.”
“Yeah… I guess I am,” she said softly, and I could see a slight flush in her cheeks.
“Are you ever going to tell Michael how you feel about him? I noticed how you clenched your fingers around your dress tonight, when the princess asked him to sit next to her.” I said as she let me into her room.
She looked at me shyly, and I could practically see the embarrassment on her face.
“You noticed that huh? I don’t know how or when I’m going to tell him. Back home, I was just always afraid of upsetting the balance of our friend group. But now, with everything that’s happening, I’m scared that he'll think I’m trying to be overly nice or showing him pity,” she said.
“How long has it been since you told me you liked him? About 3 months now?”
“Yeah and I started developing feelings for him only a month before that. I can’t say that I’m in love with him, but…” she replied, but then paused as if she didn’t know what else to say.
I gave her a questioning look.
“But?”
“But the way I feel about him is very strong. I felt confident telling you because you guys grew up together. And although Levi may misunderstand your relationship with Michael, the rest of us don’t.”
“Yes, Levi sure is dim witted. But this isn’t about me and Levi. This is about you and how you feel about Michael. You need to tell him at some point, Rebecca. Otherwise someone else might take him. Maybe even that princess,” I said while stifling a laugh.
“Please, don’t joke about that. I was gonna ask Michael if I could sit next to him for dinner tonight, but she did before I could. Then Levi took the other seat next to him,” she replied, the flush on her face becoming more intense.
I crossed my arms and looked her dead in the eyes. “Michael will never notice your feelings towards him if you never do anything to let those feelings show,” I said. “Just try and talk to him more. I know you don’t talk to him too much because you’re always nervous around him, but just try.”
“I promise you Skylar, I’ll tell him soon. I just need to make sure it’s done correctly so he doesn’t think I’m taking pity on him or anything,” she said softly.
“Well, just make sure you do tell him. I think you guys would make an excellent match if I do say so myself.”
“You really think so?” She asked, and I could hear the joy in her voice.
I gave her a warm smile. “Yes I do. You’re my best friend and I grew up with him. You compliment each other in more ways than you realize.”
“Thanks for the vote of confidence, Sky. I’ll make sure to tell him soon.”
She smiled back at me as I got up to leave.
“I’ll do my best to help out. That’s a promise. But for now, you and I should try and get some sleep,” I said as I opened the door.
“Yes. And thanks again Skylar.”
I continued smiling at her and said “Goodnight Becca,” then shut the door behind me.
