Savio believes they’ve come too far to be sorry or give up, yet that’s exactly what a fading Rosalind wants to do. Dimitri was right in saying that they had gotten things wrong from the very start, which makes it pointless to try and rewrite the past. Savio is distraught by Isaac and Rosalind’s ‘true end’ because now there’s no soul or body to bring back to life, but fret not, for the man has yet to be discouraged. The Wings of the Past chandelier is sacrificed to reanimate the Monad Grand Theater and make the place into a fortified laboratory. Savio will need plenty of peace and quiet to experiment on the puppet demons, or rather the souls that were cut off from them, to bring back those who are dead and gone.
Nil in turn has to stop the spirits of Harz from killing Savio, tainting their so-far innocent souls with murder, and that’s if the Theater doesn’t twist them into monstrosities first. Instead the spirits use every ghostly trick in the book--cold air, temporary paralysis, jump scares, psycho kinesis, etc.--to keep Savio busy as Nil and Dimitri alters the magic circle of Harz. All that energy is converted into crystals that can be easily kept out of Savio’s hands, forcing the artist into a direct clash between his puppet demons versus Nil and his ghosts. It ends with Savio being thrown back into the Monad Grand Theater where he hears the voices of his wife and child echo from the depths. They draw Savio deeper inside until stage ropes drags him onstage and the doors slam shut. Nil himself drops dead after having channeled so many ghosts at once.
Armed with magic tools and a contract with the dead, Nil arrives in the glamorous city of Harz to find the family that he lost. By day the local citizens happily prepare for their annual art festival, but by night their displays come to life in order to steal their dreams. Death awaits those who dare to interfere, but that’s not a problem for Nil in more ways than one.
