Dressing is something that you should avoid at all costs when eating salads. Creamy dressings are high in fat and low in beneficial nutrients. An alternative, but still yummy, dressing is vinaigrette or homemade Italian dressing. Putting some walnuts and cranberries in a salad is also a great idea.
Try to fit as many fresh vegetables in your diet as possible. Instead of having mashed potatoes with dinner, have fresh asparagus or green beans. Fresh vegetables taste better than frozen or canned, and have more of the nutrients your body requires. They are also more filling, which means you are less likely to eat more fatty foods.
If you currently don't take vitamins, you should start. Your body is undergoing a lot of changes with your new lifestyle and may need extra nourishment. There are a wide variety of vitamins on the market, so be sure to choose the one that is best for your age, sex and any other special needs you may have. If you are on any medications, check with your physician, first to make sure that there are no side effects.
