One foot in front of the next—
Leather heels digging deep into fresh mud:
on time, on beat.
Marching forth towards the fringe.
A plastered smile to conceal his fear—
he left in hopes of taking part in something greater than himself.
That was before.
Now he just fights to keep his name from being etched next to his brothers',
engraved on that cold, grey, forgotten stone.
