For as long as the stars have blinked and the galaxies have swirled, there has been The Architect. A grizzled, ancient being of immeasurable power, he stood vigilant, not out of love of the universe, but out of sheer necessity. He patched its cracks, rewrote its errors, and prevented its inevitable collapse.
No one thanked him. No one noticed him. That suited The Architect just fine until millennia of unacknowledged service turned him into a cranky, cosmic recluse.
But even landlords of well existence need a break. After eons of toiling in solitude, The Architect decided he had earned the right to something he’d never experienced: a mortal life. Something simple. Perhaps he could pet a dog, eat some ice cream, and maybe... wear pants? It was settled. He would find a vessel and "retire."
