Things can be a little too peaceful in the town of Morcote, Switzerland. Aside from the picturesque view from the village, the usual stroll near the lakeshore, the historical architecture, nothing much happens. Serene and her family moved to this little town a few years back, which her mom thought would be the perfect place to start anew. Their house is just a few blocks away from the lake and elderly neighbors surrounded them. Everyone was nice and smiled at them whenever they would meet. Their neighbor seems fond of their family, as they look different from your typical Swiss traits.
Her mom, Amelia of Asian descent, now manages a souvenir shop for tourists, always finds time to water her plants before she bids her goodbye to her two girls. She had two marriages, and as a result, she had one daughter for each husband. Her first husband was with a French guy, a writer and a romanticist, and Serene’s dad. He died when Serene was only two years old. After a year, Amelia couldn’t handle the loneliness and met Voice’s dad. A German businessman who Amelia married in a couple of months. Their marriage fell through because of how abusive and hot-tempered her husband was. Now the three are living their peaceful life in the little town they believe is the perfect haven.
After finishing the breakfast, Amelia left for her girls, the two set out for school. Voice triple-checked how she looks in front of the mirror while Serene hid her face inside her favorite black hoodie. She didn’t even look at the mirror, which frustrates Voice, as she knows how beautiful Serene looks. Both sisters got their black hair and brown eyes from Amelia. Voice just thinks that Serene looks better. She can be brutally honest most of the time.
“Let’s go?” Voice looks at her sister who nodded in agreement. They made sure they could lock their house before going out of their fence.
It was a lovely day, after all. Colorful leaves falling from trees would form a pile from the corner of the street. The elders already know the time the sisters would set out, so they expect them just to greet them.
Voice, who never seems to run out of energy and acts as the President for the entire neighborhood, calls everyone by their name and asks each one something a busy body might only know.
“Good morning, Old Thomas!” she waves her hand at the old guy who is reading a newspaper while seated on his reclining chair by the porch. Serene walks behind her and never tried to look at Old Thomas. The old man understands, though, as Amelia let their neighbors know about Serene in particular. Old Thomas gazed at Serene with loving eyes, pitying her, and wonders what made her like that. He looks back at Voice whose eyes shine like a doe.
“Good morning girls! School is about to end this year in a few weeks, eh?” replied Old Thomas.
“Yes, I am finally having a few weeks of rest from assignments.” Voice snorted while she lets out a few laughs. Old Thomas also laughs with her.
“Better finish the school year strong! You will get to relax like me when you’re old.”
“We will!” Voice waves again at the old man before they continued going to their school. Upon arriving at the gate of their school, Serene’s friends were waiting for her.
“The Kreiss sisters are here!” Shouted Sue, waving with finesse to the sisters.
“Good morning Sue!” Voice eyes wandered to Sue’s breast. She did a quick comparison with hers and she just let a few sighs. “I’ll be going ahead. Take care of sister here.” She looks back at Serene, who now took off her hoodie cap and was beaming with a smile. Until now, Voice can’t imagine how fast her sister transforms from a meek girl to a bright and energetic girl whenever she is with her friends.
The rest of the day proceeded as usual until the end of the class when Serene and her friends kept making eye contact to make sure all of them remained in the classroom. When they made sure that no one else aside from them remained, they arranged their seats in a circle.
Serene appears uninterested, but Krystynn, Sue, and Glory giggle non-stop.
Serene, with her cheek resting on her right palm, observes her friends. Noticing the way Krystynn would often brush her wavy red hair away from her nose. She hides a smile while shaking her head as she finds the reason for the gathering has something to do with her friend’s usual topic - Eden Boys.
Thinking of it, all of them differ from each other. Krystynn excels in school, her red hair and circle glasses make her stand out. Serene thinks Krystynn reminds her of autumn, as she always feels calm with her companionship. Sue has a sexy physique matched with her long blonde hair. She is not that good at her studies, but she is naïve and honest. She will always speak up and stand for what is right. Glory loves to explore and invent new things. She always dreams of making her way out of Morcote just to experience the thrill of life.
“Have you seen his images yet?” Krystynn asks, her phone screen hidden in front of her chest. Sue and Glory beg her to show them what she's hiding, and her eagerness shines through her eyes.
“I assume you're talking about your prince charming.” Serene sneered, knowing that she would never share her friends' interests.
“Just reveal it to us, Krystynn!” exclaims Sue, who then angrily takes the phone and stares at a picture of a man. The long-haired male model was laying down on a couch, shirtless. He had a ripped physique! His right arm was seductively covering his right eye, and his gaze transcends beyond the photograph.
“These abs make me want to lick them. Grr!” Sue.
Glory was the next to reach for the phone, and she locked her gaze on the man.
Sue said, "He's perfect!"
“Cut the illusions and he's not even attractive!” Serene rolled her eyes and protested. Her three friends were all taken aback and gazed at her in astonishment. Hurt. Sue's jaw was on the verge of collapsing.
“Are you telling us that this guy-” Serene looked at her watch as Sue pointed to the guy's image. “is not handsome?” Sue's voice echoed in the room. Krystynn and Glory rose to their feet and gazed down at Serene, who simply shrugged off her friend's furious reaction.
“Seriously, you need your eyes checked!” Krystynn insisted as she adjusted her eyeglass. “Should I refer you to my Optometrist?”
“They were in perfect condition the last time I checked.” Serene counters with a rebuttal.
“If you keep acting like that, my friend, you might end up as an old maiden.” Glory adds to the mix.
“I'm perfectly OK with it. Guys may be a real pain in the neck! They're filthy. They have a foul odor. Who knows, they could be wolves disguised as sheep.” Serene rose to her feet, not expecting to hear anything from her friends.
“My friend, what a waste of beauty.” Sue drew near and took Serene's face in her hands, staring at her for a few moments as if she was examining every little detail. Serene has innocent eyes, a petite face, plump lips, fair skin, and long black hair that appears to be healthy. Anyone would fall for her, but she constantly wore her old favorite black hoodies to hide her face.
“You have the potential to be the ‘it' girl among the four of us.” Krystynn continues.
“It doesn't matter what you say. I'd rather be with you than spend the rest of my life with someone who will only make things difficult for me. I'm content with what I've got now." Serene pretended to be adorable in front of her friends and gathered them in a close hug. Sue was the first to escape free from the tense situation.
“Serene, this has been bothering me for a long time, but are you a lesbian?” You're well aware that you're not interested in any man. I realize we go to an all-girls school, but do you have a crush on someone from our class?” Sue, Krystynn, and Glory exchanged stares. Each person is pointing at the other.
“She must think you're cool. You have a lot of...” Sue's breast drew Krystynn's attention.
"Just cut it. I'm not a lesbian at all!” Serene protested.
“She doesn't appear to be a butch, to be sure. Our friend is a judo athlete who dislikes boys and prefers to hang out with gorgeous girls like us. She isn't a lesbian in the least.” Glory made a sarcastic remark.
Ting!
“Wait, I got a notification!” Krystynn took out her phone and began watching a video from a channel to which she had subscribed.
A middle-aged man with a strange mustache that appears like a reversed Mc Donald's sign is seen grinning widely in the video broadcast. He wore his hair in a glossy, gleaming manner. Before making the news, he was grinning from ear to ear as he coughed through his right hand.
“Hello, everyone! Bernard Williams, the resident announcer at Adam Newson Academy, has been providing you with weekly updates from your Eden Boys. Today's program will go down in history as I deliver news that you will most likely only hear once every decade.” Bernard pauses and giggles with delight. He coughs once more before resuming his speech.
“Adam Newson Academy is now accepting female applicants for the historical tradition called Eve Selection! To know how to submit your application, please refer to the requirements and instructions posted on the link provided in the description box. Ladies, this is your opportunity to meet your Eden Boys in person. Please don't let this opportunity pass you by, okay? Submit your application and cross your fingers for the once-in-a-lifetime chance. And to keep the excitement high, here is the promotional video. Enjoy!”
Then a promotional video was played showing all the attractive and famous boys from Adam Newson. Serene’s friend screams in excitement every time a familiar Eden boy appears in the promotion. There were countless gasps and slapping as the three jumped for joy.
When the broadcast ended, the three took deep breaths and settled down, exhausted.
The silence grew while each of them tried to remember what they heard.
“Did you just play an Eden Channel announcement? Was it legit?” Glory's brows wrinkled as she waits for a response. Krystynn furiously nods.
“How come an all-boys institution now welcomes female students?” Sue had inquired. The four were completely befuddled until Krystynn remembered something crucial.
“Can you tell me what year it is?” Krystynn had inquired.
“Well, it's the new year-”
“I recall!” This year is going to be the year! This is the year we've all been waiting for! This is the year Adam Newson Academy opens its doors to female students, and one lucky bastard gets to feast on the lads.” Krystynn cries in excitement.
“Oh, my goodness!” Glory held her breath.
“I need to apply as soon as possible!” Sue took a step forward. The other two hurried as well, and the three were gone in no time. They even forgot Serene was all there all along.
“I suppose that's how our friendship works. Boys come first, then hoes.” Serene muttered to herself. She then wears her hoods in preparation to go home. She took a final look at the empty classroom before she left.
