As the whispers in the wedding hall grew louder, everyone stared in shock at the projection on the wall. The reason why a video of two people making love appeared in a wedding hall was quite simple.
Because the man in the video was the same man who was about to get married. And the suit he was wearing in the video was the same as the one he was wearing now. This suit was a special design, ordered specifically by the bride.
However, the issue was not the special design of the suit. It was the groom cheating on the woman he was about to marry and shamelessly sleeping with another woman just a few hours before the ceremony.
The woman’s face in the video was not fully visible, but the lustful face of the man was clearly seen.
“I can’t believe it! As if cheating wasn’t enough, he continues this immorality even on his wedding day… Tch!”
“He was a useless jerk.”
“I feel sorry for the bride. Such a perfect woman was too good for that scum anyway.”
“The bride deserved better than that trash.”
As the whispers grew louder, the groom, whose face had already turned pale, became even more ashen. Trembling, he looked at the woman standing next to him and was startled by her expressionless face.
As soon as he said “My love,” the woman turned to him with tear-filled eyes. As the groom looked into her tearful eyes, he felt a rising sense of guilt and disgust for himself, but it was too late for everything.
“How could you do this to me?” the bride’s voice silenced the whispers in the hall instantly, and everyone’s attention turned to them as if they were watching a play.
“Seol-Hwa, my dear, this is a misunderstanding!”
“A misunderstanding? Are you kidding me? Everyone here is seeing the video of you sleeping with another woman. So, did everyone here misunderstand?”
“Sweetheart, listen to me! It was just a momentary thing. I swear I love you. That woman seduced me!” he tried to explain desperately, unaware that he was sinking even deeper.
When Kang Seol-Hwa slapped the groom hard across the face, the sound of the slap echoed in the hall.
“How can you be so shameless?”
As the people in the hall looked on in shock, the groom, whose head had snapped to the side, held his cheek, now marked with five fingers, and looked at the bride. He flinched at the contemptuous eyes staring back at him, and the bride’s cold voice echoed in his mind.
“My relationship with you ends here. Don’t ever come near me again!”
Seol-Hwa stepped down from the platform, removed her veil, and threw it to the ground. As the flowers in her hand fell to the floor, she walked back the way she came, stepping on the flowers.
The man left behind was engulfed in great shame and disgrace, while the guests in the hall looked at him with scorn. Without caring about what was happening behind her, Seol-Hwa took her belongings from the bridal room and left the hotel where the wedding was being held.
Although people around her looked at her curiously, she walked on without caring. When her phone rang, it was the number she had been in contact with for three months.
“You are the only person whose wedding ended this way, madam. Allow me to celebrate your victory,” said the woman’s voice, bringing a smile to Seol-Hwa’s lips.
“It’s all thanks to you.”
“Who hires a woman to seduce her fiancé? After this incident, no one will suspect you.”
“Yes, I hope you keep your mouth shut,” she said, and the woman on the other end of the line chuckled.
“Don’t worry, after receiving such a large sum of money, I wouldn’t betray my employer.”
“Stay out of sight for a while. That fool will try to find you.”
“Are you underestimating me a bit? I am a contractor who completes all assigned tasks perfectly.”
“Yes, thank you for your help.”
“It is I who should thank you for choosing my service. Enjoy a happy life, Ms. Kang Seolhwa,” the woman said before ending the call. As Seol-Hwa looked up at the sky, she felt she could breathe easily for the first time in a long while.
She had been taken in as an orphan and raised as an heir for the company, but her uncle, who tried to take everything from her, had forced her into this arranged marriage. Despite working hard to repay her grandfather’s kindness, her uncle’s manipulation had nearly rendered years of effort futile. Kang Seolhwa pretended to be upset about the broken marriage, but she smiled happily as she remembered her grandfather comforting her.
As she settled into the comfortable seat in first class, she turned off her phone at the polite request of the flight attendant. When her grandfather suggested she take a vacation, saying she had gone through a painful experience, she had felt like screaming with joy. She had never had time for herself while trying to be useful for the company. Now, she was excited about the beautiful vacation she would have.
Looking out the window at the clouds, she thought about the vacation she would enjoy. As she imagined the sea, sand, and delicious food, her attention was suddenly diverted by the shaking plane. The flight attendants hurriedly moved towards the cockpit as the plane shook dangerously, and passengers screamed. Looking out the window, Seol-Hwa saw that the plane’s engine was malfunctioning and on fire.
Everything happened so quickly. Ah, I guess this is how I will die. As this thought crossed her mind, the plane was plummeting towards the ground at full speed. The plane, upon impact, split into two pieces. Kang Seolhwa looked at the metal shard embedded in her abdomen with blurry eyes.
As she felt her life coming to an end, a sense of regret rose within her, as if her entire life was flashing before her eyes. She had worked for the company all her life, yet she continued to be looked down upon by others.
A tear fell from her eye as she thought of her only supporter, her grandfather. I hope you won’t be too sad, grandfather. I’m sorry for leaving before you, and thank you for being the only one to give me endless love in this cruel world.
As she looked at the full moon rising in the night sky with blurry eyes, her consciousness slowly faded away.
