All I want in life is to read and take care of my plants. Take a literature class they said, you’ll be able to do just that if you do this they said. Fucking liars. Now I have a pointless degree and I’m waiting for the Library Manager to call me into his office. Since when do libraries have offices? Or employee rooms for that matter? What does he or she or they even do in there? I ran my fingers through my hair and leaned back. My eyes traveled to the ceiling and I took in a deep breath before letting it out. I’m sure I can get this job. If anything I’ll get to read a bunch. Which sounds more than wonderful. I closed my eyes and soon felt a darkness crawl over me. What? I opened my eyes to a tall figure and jumped.
” Please refrain from jumping in a library. Are you Winter Borne?”, The raven-haired man spoke. He had a very calculated appearance and seemed to be a stern person altogether.
” I am”, I finally answered after I got myself together. He stepped back and I stood up.
” I’m the manager of this library, Asahi. My last name is irrelevant so don’t bother asking. Follow me”, He quipped and walked off. Damn, he’s tall as hell. Keep yourself composed, Winter. You won’t be able to keep the electricity running if you don’t get this job. I followed to the best of my ability, but his long legs made him quick on his feet. By the time we finally arrived at the office I was practically out of breath. Asahi looked behind himself at me and his eyes seemed to lock on me just to take note of me. I ignored it and sat down at a seat he pointed at while making his way to his own chair. He sat down neatly and looked me up and down. It gave me the feeling of a snake looking at a mouse.
” Are you going to tell me why I should hire you or should I wait an hour for you to ready yourself?”, Asahi asked, tapping his fingers on the desk impatiently.
” Oh- sorry sir. You should hire me because I love books and I believe that you should love your job. So with that in mind, I would be more passionate and hard-working because the job involves one of my favorite leisure activities”, I said trying to sound mature as possible.
” How old are you?”, He asked in his smooth voice.
” 23”, I answered while I tried to figure out what his eye color was. It’s definitely not a common one.
” I’ve looked over your resume already so when can you start?”, He asked and my eyes lit up.
” Today”, I replied trying to contain my joy.
” Don’t act like you’re special, you were the only one to try for an interview”, Asahi said, narrowing his eyes down at me. My face sunk when he said that. So much for my pride, I guess.
” What you’ll be doing is putting up the returned books in their place alphabetically. Think you can handle that Fuyu?”, he asked and I felt puzzled.
” I can but…what do you mean Fuyu?”, I asked questionably.
” It’s winter in Japanese. It suits you better”, Asahi said while adjusting his glasses. ”I’ll check on you once I get a hold of these requested books”, He told me before flipping up his laptop. I guess that’s my cue to get started. I left the room and my mind reminisced over his eyes. I thought they were blue but I think they were actually some sort of purple. I found the tray of books labeled returns and began picking up books with authors first names being A. I put them up and went from there alphabetically.
I was in the last book before someone tapped my shoulder. I looked over and saw Asahi. He said he’d check on me, but I wasn’t aware that meant to stalk me.
” How idiotic are you?”He asked simply.
” Pardon me?” I growled at him. What the fuck?
” You put them in order of first names. It’s supposed to be by last names”, He sneered. ” Tomorrow you redoing it. The Library is closing so for now you can go home. Come at 6:00 am so you have plenty of time to do it right”, He sighed.
” You didn’t give me details. In fact I don’t know what all I’m supposed to do yet,” I spat fed up with him. How can he just get bitchy about something he just shooed me off to do with little to no details on how the ‘proper’ way it was supposed to be done?
“ I wasn’t aware you needed instructions like a toddler would. I’ll show and tell you in as many details as it takes to get it through to you on how it is to be done. As well as your other duties, ” Asahi grumbled looking annoyed.“ Now that that’s taken care of, go home,”He told me before walking off. There he goes. At least I got the job.
