'Of all the characters I could have been reincarnated as, why must it be her?!!'
That was the first thing she thought when she looked in the mirror. Staring back at her was a woman with long blond hair, pale skin, and blue eyes that had been described as cold and cruel within the pages of a book. Though right now, she looked more shocked than evil.
Because instead of Rivera Cyanure, it was a normal girl inhabiting her body.
'This woman is seriously evil!!' she thought, frantically pinching herself. 'This is no ordinary villainess— she isn't a pitiable woman who was misunderstood and committed petty crimes... No, Rivera is truly the worst. In fact, I liked her character because of how well-written she was as a bad person... She is cunning, unapologetic, and has no shame at all. When she died in the final chapter, both the characters in the story AND the readers online cheered!! That is how bad she is!!'
This was the kind of villain character that people hate, then praise the writer for making them hate her. She made some readers fear for their favourite character's safety, and others had to put down their books because it had so much suffering that it was frustrating. But this Rivera was just a normal girl who was unlucky enough to be reading this novel just when she died!! In fact, her last thoughts were 'Oh, I hate that I share a name with a villain like her.' She had passed before even noticing that a car had hit her.
"Haah..." Rivera sighed. Well, judging from her surroundings, she could already guess what point she was in the timeline. Old brick, outdated furniture. This was an abandoned castle that the original Villainess had taken refuge in. But it was not dusty, so it must mean she had been here for a while... This was a massive headache.
'At the start of the novel, it had already been three years since the Villainess attempted to murder her own husband and went missing... And what did she do in those three years?' Rivera paced around the room, deep in thought.
'She formed a cult.'
At this point, there was only one person who might still advocate for Rivera's life. That would be her husband. Well, ex-husband. There was no way any of the four great Kingdoms would want her back alive, after the act of treason that she had committed on the King of Ver... as his Queen. She had poisoned him and fled after setting the castle in flames, escaping easily in the chaos that ensued. It was a devious plan that took weeks of gathering materials and coordination in order to pull off and was only revealed later on in the story. Thankfully, the King survived, though he was severely injured and left blinded.
'And yet, he still wants to help her!! That's no longer kindness, that is stupidity!!' Thought Rivera, rushing around to look for something specific.
This was why she cannot ask him for help. The villainess knew that he would cover for her, still deep in love, so she had forged a Demon Contract with his lifespan. The shock amongst the fans was palpable when it was revealed that the king did not survive by luck— but he was found just in time according to Rivera's plan.
For her to perform dark magic in her cult, she had to use lifeforce as fuel. But this woman would never sacrifice herself, so when the time came for her to summon the Demon and make the Contract, instead of using her own blood, she used his. The Demon accepted, but warned her that it could backfire as he could use the same magic she was receiving and be more powerful than her... but she smiled and replied coldly.
"It would not be a problem."
'Chills all over my body, even as I think about it now!! Ugh!!' Rivera thought, finally managing to pull out the Contract. The writing and Magic circle seemed to glow, and she could feel the dark magic flowing into her. That's right...
"Nitimur in vetitum. For I have achieved what I must, this power no longer is worthy of me." Her strong voice filled the room, and the contract began to tear apart and dissipate, right in front of her. "In fairness, this ends. Nitimur in vetitum."
The first thing she must do to right this villainess' wrongs— was free the King from this Contract!!
